Wonder if there was a by product of letting Ray and Matz go. Obviously you want to keep them but since they are gone, maybe this further strengthens the Jays case to trade Kirk for say someone like Ramirez.
Matz and Ray pitched much better with Kirk as their catcher than Jansen or McGuire.
Ryu, Berrios and Manoah pitched much better with Jansen as their catcher than Kirk or McGuire.
Jansen - tOPS+:
Berrios (3) - 88
Ryu (19) - 95 (2020 was 107 tOPS+ in 11 starts)
Manoah (3) - 99
Matz (15) - 115
Ray (6) - 122
Kirk- tOPS+:
Manoah (7) - 68
Matz (5) - 69
Ray (17) - 95
Berrios (1) - 268
Ryu (0) - n/a
McGuire - tOPS+:
Matz (10) - 83
Ray (5) - 96
Berrios (8) - 103
Ryu (10) - 105
Manoah (10) - 127
Number of starts are in brackets, the lower the number of tOPS+, the more effective the pitcher was with that catcher.
Small sample size i know, but Kirk doesnt catch Ryu and close to 70% of Kirk' starts came with catching to pitchers that are no longer Blue Jays, Ray and Matz. If he cant catch Ryu and Berrios as they do better with Jansen and McGuire, it could make sense to trade Kirk for a premium asset with Moreno coming up.
Same could be said for McGuire, but we all know he doesnt have much value and he is likely gone when Moreno is ready.
