You can't really tell at the time who is going to be good. For example in 2015 Vladdy was #4, Soto #22, and Tatis #27
Projecting 16 years olds is difficult enough, especially in a sport where players tend to break out later. But, I believe Vladdy was pushed down by older/high profile Cubans and the weird Lucius Fox situation. Vladdy was the highest regarded 22 year old and Dominican, and got the largest bonus among those guys. Now, the baseball draft is the most irratic of the big 4, and these kids are getting signed 2 to 5 years earlier (or at least we believe they are).

Is there really that big of a sticking point(s) to go through this lockout and potentially lose games over? I've read briefly some of them and it doesn't seem like anything to shut things down over.

Lockout would be dumb seeing we just had a shortened season in 2020. Surely, they can't afford another shortened so soon after?

Barker says Freddie Freeman already decided what he is going to do but just hasn’t announced it

Barker says he has no insights. But he suspects Braves offered him a 5 year deal and won’t go to 6 years and the $180M Freddie wants.

Barker says the Braves may feel they got lucky with a WS. They have a young team and now is the perfect time to move forward with the young core. They don’t feel they need to commit to Freddie long term because they got their WS. Perhaps they want Acuna to be their face and just sign another 1B at a cheaper rate like Rizzo.

Barker says his sources say Vladdy always wanted to play 3B since coming into the system. His focus shifted this season to be the best 1B defensively and offensive in the game in season to help the Jays get to the playoffs and win the WS. But as he gets fitter, he may want to go back to 3B. Espinal is a good backup plan if Vladdy fails at 3B.

Would be a good place to dump Grichuk if we're looking to free up some cap for a major move like Bryant (although I can't see us signing another super contract that lasts beyond Bo and Vlad's arbitration years).

Would love to dump Grichuk’s salary. But would gladly trade him straight up for Didi, Segura or take on Kingery’s bad contract.

Don't expect any progress between the players and the league anytime soon. No one cares to concede on anything until it starts eating into actual games which isn't a concern for at least 2 more months.

The whole service time thing seems to be a major issue but I don't get the players suggestion. It won't fix it. They were suggesting free agency at 29.5 years old or 5 years of service whichever happens first. But the major prospects who come into the league usually do it before the age of 24.5. So for the players who get service time screwed 2 weeks to start the season that's still going to happen to avoid 5 full years of service time so the team will end up with 5.9 years before free agency. I think the league suggested a hard and fast 29.5 years old for everyone. The current rule is dumb though. For a player drafted as a 23 year old college senior, they'll be 27 before they need to be added to the 40 man to avoid rule 5. 30 before they're out of options and 36 before they become a free agent with the team not having to axpose them to any other team the entire time. A hard and fast age limit is probably the best solution.

Actually, he got right around what I expected him to get before he won the Cy Young, but thanks for pointing that out. Another feather for the cap.

But one of the reasons I don't like to stick around much during the offseason is because I don't know how the offseason will shake out. How can I? This isn't like having game footage to analyze. I've got nothing to go on, so I have no idea what's going on...and I never said I did. And neither do any of you. Even that guy who told me Ray was waiting for the CBA to expire turned out to be wrong. Shocker, random tweets from journalists are dubious at best.

Oh, thanks for continually proving how quick you guys are to resort to insults. And all because I point out I was right about something, yeesh. You know, if you guys would quit insulting me, I'd likely post a lot less.

No kidding. What a jump this year. Screw what people say about players asking for so much money. It's the owners fault for agreeing to pay it.
The issue is you make claims that you called it without any evidence. I can say that’s exactly what I told my friends player x would do to. Not exactly hard. It’s not an insult it’s reality. You just make loads of false claims and speak like you’re far superior and your knowledge can’t be beat. It’s annoying af

With Taylor going to the Dodgers, Jays need to go all in on Bryant. Unless they're willing to trade some of their own guys for a third-basemen Bryant is their last option at getting a top-notch 3B via FA. I don't understand the Jays being in on Freeman at all lol makes zero sense

Is this the first lockout in baseball since the year they f'ed up the Expos?

Wasn't that a strike? I was 2 at the time so obviously don't have any memory of it. But didn't 1994 they start the season without a CBA and the players went on strike partway through? Which as a result every league now locks out its players as soon as the CBA runs out to prevent something similar happening?

Healthy Biggio has been better than Taylor for our needs. And that's before talking about Espinal who imo is flat out better.

Bryant is a top 10 3b. I only want him if Ramirez (the best) and Chapman (top 10 but could possibly rebound to be top 3 in TO). The problem with Bryant is money. He wants a lot.

Absolutely. Played softball on the field in August of that year.

I agree with the Grichuk idea.

Having said that, perhaps they could structure a Bryant deal heavily front loaded. That will make him more attractive if and when the time comes to move him.

Plus he has the flexibility to play multiple positions.

Correa is open to playing 3rd if necessary. Too bad he's worth more than Seagar.
