Today on The Athletic Jays and A's beat writers Kaitlyn McGrath and Melissa Lockard talk about the potential for a trade between the teams, specifically getting the Jays some infield and pitching help.

They eventually settled on a deal of

Chapman
Manaea

for

Groshans
Kevin Smith
Otto Lopez
Bowden Francis
Zach Logue

Sign me the hell up.

full article (paywall): Matt Chapman and Sean Manaea trade discussion: What might a Blue Jays-A's deal look like?
If only. Man we’d have way too many big leaguers at that point though

McGrath initially offered a better package of Groshans, Kirk, Tiedmann and Smith. then the A's writer came back by subbing out Kirk and Tiedmann for Lopez, Francis, and Logue arguing that the A's don't need/want any more catchers at the moment and usually look for more advanced pitchers than Tiedmann.

The A’s writer is an idiot then. They want Lopez, Francis and Logue over Kirk?

I mean that's something we can't accommodate because in reality the A's would probably be demanding Nate Pearson in this spot. Which I highly doubt the Jays do.

I'd be willing to swap out Francis with Kloffenstein (even though that doesnt solve their advanced problem) if it got a deal done but I have to imagine the A's get a better suitor. Francis isn't much different from your average rule 5 project, doubt he moves the needle at all.

I would like to retain Tiedmann as much as possible. The recent articles on him have me thinking he could be really special if he keeps progressing like he has

Why not go to an NFL hybrid. Runner starts on 2nd, if the offensive team score 2 runs they win, if they score 1 the other team has to get a chance to tie or win, if they score none they lose :sarcasm:

Hot take: I think that sudden death rule is cool. But like...after the 12th or something.

If they follow football's lead, we could either do a score multiple in the top of the 10th and win (or have the 10th be a full inning) then go sudden death. After 10 innings, I don't think anyone can complain if it becomes sudden death.

Why not just keep things as they have always been? the 10 extra inning games dont warrant a redesign to look "flashy" when there are a 100 other places baseball could improve first.

Yeah, I hate the runner-on-second rule because it seems so unnecessary (extra innings are fun and intense and just get more fun and intense the longer the game goes), but at least I can understand that that rule generates a little more action.

This one seems less about "make it more exciting" and more about "meh, let's just get it over with".
