140 OPS+ from 2020-2022. Last year was bad at 70 but he was injured.

2020: 177 OPS+ (Jays highest was 146 with Teo)

2021: 160 OPS+ (Jays highest was 167 with Vlad)

I wanted him and Brian Anderson to fill out the last 2 bench spot.

Also Morosi deserves credit. He brought Belt up yesterday for the Jays.

Not loving the 9.3 million price but it's a solid bench bat which we needed. Mashes righties throughout his career. Still need a 4th OF who hits lefties well I think, and this pretty much ensures we'll be over the CBT so might as well go fill that hole too.

This was my thoughts exactly. You dont sign belt for 9.3mil to sit on the bench. He wouldnt come here to do that either. Have to think a biggio plus for a pitcher

I don't really see how Biggio relates to Belt starting at all. Biggio was in line to be a bench player. They still had 2 spots left for bench players so they don't need to trade anyone. Even so trading Biggio doesn't make Belt a starter anyway. Belt shouldn't be a starter on a contender after the season he just had. Good teams need serviceable players off the bench. This is what that is hopefully. Start at 1B when Vlad DH's, start at DH every once in a while to give Kirk a day off. Probably starting 2 in every 5 ish days

9.3 is a lot more than I expected Belt to get. 1B/DH starting against righties, let's hope he stays healthy.

But he brings more leadership which has clearly been the point of emphasis for the org.

Still need a 4th of - keeping my fingers crossed for Andrew. And the odds of Biggio being dealt for a reliever have just increased.

Wow look at that money . No fan of this player or the money.
Take a look at his 20 and 21 seasons. Was apparently hurt last year, if he’s back to 2021 form this would be a steal.

Even if he performs in between the last 2 years he’s a good add. As others mentioned, he’s also a vet with WS experience.

Belt eats into Biggio's role as a lefty bat off the bench and occasional 1B starter. Plus we still need to add an outfielder so he also eats up Biggio's spot on the bench.

Who gives a shit about the money? LOL. Don't really care, not my problem. Jays seem to be willing to go into the tax. Who cares?
I think it actually confirms we’re going into the tax, so they might as well make it worthwhile now. Perhaps we do add another pitcher and an OF.

Cavan might not get much playing time because of all the versatility other guys have sure but we need to carry 13 position players and only had 11 that were MLB proven before this moves including Biggio. Belt makes 12 and I guess Otto Lopez as 13? Cavan doesn't have a ton of value so unless someone is willing to drastically overpay isn't it better having him there instead of Lukes?

2 open spots on the bench. Belt gets one of them, but you need 2 more guys before Biggio is actually pushed off the roster no?

Yeah, I've read a bunch of speculation already about what this means and I can't figure out why. They had two clear openings for position players on the roster and added a veteran bat to fill one of them. They could move Biggio and give that spot to Lopez or something, but there's no way this move necessitates something like that. This just means Biggio gets less playing time and Lopez/Horwitz start in Buffalo.

This improves the bench and gives them really good depth. I want more reliable players on the team, not fewer.

Meh. It's a one year deal on a potential risk. Don't hate it, don't love it either.

If he sucks, you just move on.

Belt missed most of last year with injury but it is worth noting in 2021 he was really good. He's a left handed bat that gives them a wrinkle when they need it.
