Got excited only to be disappointed when Angel Hernandez wasn't on the list.
I will however laugh my ass off if he still isn't made a crew chief.
This has been an ongoing rumor for sure. Can I dream about Cueto and Hendricks coming? Or just wishful thinking.
CBT Between $233MM and $253MM
The Phillies, Braves and Blue Jays are currently in this group, with the Phils ahead of the other two at $251MM. The Phillies also paid the tax in 2022, setting them up to be a second-time payor. That means they are currently set to be taxed at a 30% rate, with that rate jumping to 42% for spending that goes over the $253MM line.
Both the Braves and Blue Jays would be paying the tax for the first time in their respective histories, putting them each in line for a 20% tax rate on spending over the line. The Jays are only a hair over right now, with Roster Resource calculating their number at $233.2MM, with Atlanta at $240MM.
Blue Jays: Yosver Zulueta, RHP (No. 5)
Zulueta’s upper-90s fastball and impressive slider likely would have gotten him a spot with the Blue Jays late last year if not for shoulder/knee issues that knocked him out for much of August and some control concerns after his return to Double-A/Triple-A in September. Still, he finished with a career-high 55 2/3 innings and after being added to the 40-man roster this month, he has an outside shot to make the club out of Spring Training. Even if he doesn’t, that mix of high-end velocity and decent offspeed stuff will likely be too good to keep him down for long.
The Jays want some heat in the bullpen, don't they?
This one can't hurt.
Merryweather was very good, he just had the worst injury bug this side of Tulowitzki. That opening day save against the Yankees a few years back is one of the most dominant outings I can remember.
I know im in the minority here but i wouldnt mind Cueto. Good player that will help the team. Before the 2021 season many posters here said the Jays needed to add at least one more starter for depth. I disagreed and as the season went on, they were right and the Jays could have used one more. So i wont disagree now, dont stop here go get one more starter to push White and Kikuchi to the pen. Cueto would be perfect. Need a guy to raise the floor. Wacha is another arm.
Even if you grab an arm like Miley, Duffy, Minor, Grienke, Weaver, Bundy etc. to be your #5/6 you really are providing the team with insurances until Ryu is ready or if a top 4 starter gets hurt or if Kikuchi or White cant bounce back.
I think Hendriks is a long shot imo. I think there are legs to the rumors where the Jays want him. But i cant see the Sox trading the reliever with the best fWAR in 2022 in their contention window unless they are getting someone great back like Jansen. With Moreno gone, i cant see them moving Jansen. There is also a slim possibility they need to clear money. So if they want to trade Hendriks and someone else like Lynn, then im all ears.
I'm just trying to figure out what happened to him. Was it the beginning of 2021 where he was so dominant and then he got hurt(again) and was never the same after that.View attachment 628139
Makes you wonder what he could be if he ditched the 4S for a 2S/sinker to help tunnel the slider even more, especially because the 4S is atrocious. One of the most batting practice pitches in the entire league and it's probably not good that he throws it 51.6% of the time.
He was great in the short stint in 2020/early 2021, but as soon as batters realized his fastball has no movement it stopped being a pitch to fear and instead the pitch to sit on. He's never thrown it less than 51% of the time in his career too, so each player knows they're likely going to get multiple BP fastballs an AB.Nice share. Hope they sign one of them. Though luxury tax is definitely an issue.

It's also worth noting that in that amazing 4.1 inning stretch he had, he was peppering fastballs in at 100 and 101. Maybe the success still wasn't sustainable but fastballs with no movement at 101 are a lot different than fastballs with no movement at 96.He was great in the short stint in 2020/early 2021, but as soon as batters realized his fastball has no movement it stopped being a pitch to fear and instead the pitch to sit on.
