I like how quickly it flipped from "Miller is a 100 point player that will get a massive return" to "his contract will be an anchor" literally as soon as Miller got traded.

It's a bad return for the Canucks. The situation basically guaranteed the return would be bad, but it's still a bad return.
Potentially, yes.

The Rangers have had Miller before, but there's obviously external factors at hand.

People assuming it's bad because of the low return, but no one is asking why a team wouldn't pay more than that if you're simply adding a player of his supposed level ?

People will say whatever serves their interests in the moment. It's extremely odd that people post on the trade boards like what they post will actually affect the value of the player in a real world trade, but people overemphasize the positives and minimize the negatives when trying to sell an asset on here, and vice versa when they're trying to buy one.

It’s not a bad return at all, it’s a pretty fair value return.

#2/3C, a RD with huge potential and a 1st

They're trading Pettersson during the summer. That's what makes the most sense.

His NMC doesn't kick in until July 1st, and the market for him will be much stronger when teams have cap flexibility. Trading him mid-season, they were going to take a massive haircut.

The difference with JT Miller is that the offers weren't going to improve in the summer because there is no way to create a market for him with his NMC already active. So it made sense to resolve it by moving him now, and then return to the table with Pettersson trades at the draft and before July 1st.

I'm glad the Canucks moved Miller over Pettersson. Not only is Miller on the wrong side of 30, he has the habit of trying risky passes that during his past three years had about a 70% success rate which led to a good scoring chance and sometimes a goal. This year, that's dropped to about 40% and has turned the puck over more often than not.

Canucks not retaining any of Miller’s salary is a plus for Vancouver, all of it’s going to New York.

I can imagine that locker room is breathing a sigh of relief, Miller can bully and yell at someone in the Rangers locker room.

This had to happen, his constant bullshit year in and year out about his attitude, low trade value and him half assing it.

Sick of his shit, good in the playoffs last year but comes into this year all putrid ass.

Miller is on the wrong side of 30 while Pettersson is still in his mid 20’s.

Just looking at the stats, Chytil doesn't even look like a top six player... Was Mika Z for JT really that bad of a deal if that was indeed on the table?

Wonder if this affects their ability to sign Boeser. My understanding is they were good friends and linemates

Nice to see another GM besides Blake make another bad trade, though its gonna be hard to top the absolute fleecing that occured in the Dubois deal...

What does the protection mean? What does the pick turn into when the rangers miss the playoffs?
