Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

Ooof that's not good. Chytil at least is decent, providing he remains healthy.

That 1st should be used for adding another player before the deadline.

Chytil, a decent player but sadly another concussion waiting to happen
Mancini. Can’t crack the lineup
A protected first round pick

Drury really stuck it to Vancouver

Certified terrible trade unless that 1st and/or Chytil are being immediately flipped for something useful. Just awful.

The most important thing to know is what the trade protection is. The Rangers currently sit with the 12th OA pick. If it's top 5 protection or better, I'd call that a huge win for the Canucks because there is a reasonable chance the Rangers finish in the 8th to 14th type wheelhouse.

Of course, there is a chance that they turn it around and make the playoffs, but otherwise if they can end up with a top 10 type prospect in return for a disgruntled star player with a NMC, that's very good.

If it is playoff protected, it's very bad - but you at least have the slim chance that Miller could be such a jerk that the Rangers lose again next year and you get a free and clear shit at McKenna in the lottery...

Reminder - Van cleared up cap and has the first as trade bait. I’m not sure they will be that much worse, and clearing the distraction is worth a fair amount.

Not sure this is the fleecing posters seem to think it is. Looks like about market value to me for a player with locker room issues.

I think this will do wonders for VANs season. Having that drama in the lockerroom is a constant burr--Wild suffered through years of Suter drama and you could almost taste the relief once the buyouts happened. At least VAN is in a position to get some assets in addition to the mental relief.

Not really... they now have a gigantic hole to fill offensively as Miller was by far their highest scoring forward the past 3 years.

Mancini is in his first pro year. He will be an NHL player, even if it's only as a 5/6.
