The Hockey News has released their Fantasy “Pool Guide†for the 2014-15 with projections for the Rangers forwards:

Marty St. Louis: 70 points (25 goals, 45 assists)Derek Stepan: 59 points (17 goals, 42 assists)Rick Nash: 53 points (31 goals, 22 assists)Chris Kreider: 52 points (27 goals, 25 assists)Mats Zuccarello: 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists)Derick Brassard: 43 points (15 goals, 28 assists)Carl Hagelin: 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists)Lee Stempniak: 34 points (12 goals and 22 assists) (Listed as a UFA)JT Miller: 27 pointsDominic Moore: 24 pointsTanner Glass: 15 points

Matthew Lombardi was not listed.

I have no problem seeing Marty, Stepan, Nash Kreider and Zucc go well above those estimates.

Tanner Glass 15 points. Yeah, no

These projections would make me very happy.

I gave 22 goals (combined) to D. Moore and Miller, and 15 more to Lombardi, Fast and Mueller. I assumed that our top-6 D will score the same as they did last season plus one additional goal each to whoever will be our #7 and #8.

That would bring our grand total to 240 goals, which is 22 goals more than last year. If our defense remains more or less the same as last year, we should be second or third in goals for minus goals against in the East.

That's a lot of goals. Hawks let the league with 267 last season.

OK I've overdone this projection haha but I really like our roster this season even though some others don't.

Your projection has us scoring almost half a goal more per game than last year's league leader.

If you reduce your projections by 4 goals each for all the forwards on the top 3 lines, the Rangers still wind up leading the league in goals. You projected 79 goals on the bottom-6 and that's only because you gave a single goal to Glass, who is the only player likely to score more than you projected.

Kreider - (54) 26 G 28 A
Stepan - (66) 23 G 43 A
Nash - (60) 32 G 28 A
Zuccarello - (62) 23 G 39 A
Brassard - (50) 19 G 31 A
Stempniak - (37) 13 G 24 A
Hagelin - (44) 18 G 26 A
MSL - (72) 33 G 39 A
Miller - (33) 15 G 18 A
D. Moore (19) 8 G 11 A
Glass (11) 4 G 7 A
Lombardi (21) 7 G 14 A

McDonagh (58) 16 G 42 A
Girardi (25) 6 G 19 A
Staal (26) 5 G 21 A
Boyle (37) 8 G 29 A
J. Moore (15) 5 G 10 A
Klein (12) 3 G 9 A

264 G. Very optimistic of course, but not sure who I'm valuing too high.

We aren't scoring 264, not even close.

One mistake fans make is forgetting that each year someone has a bad season. It will happen again this year, so take off 15 goals just for that.

Then make minor adjustments to drop us to 215-230 goals, depending on how optimistic you want to be.

To match last year's scoring leader, just about everybody would have to live up to expectations.

Kreider - 20G
Stepan - 25G
Nash - 30G
Zuccarello - 25G
MSL - 30G
Hagelin - 20G
Brassard -20G
Stempniak - 15G
Lombardi - 10G
D. Moore - 10G
Glass - 3G
Miller - 10G

McD - 15G
G - 5G
J. Moore - 5G
Staal - 5G
Klein - 5G
Boyle - 10G

263 Goals

My guess though is we'll have a few underachievers, and a bust or two. As a result of that I'd expect us to hover around 200 goals, like last year.

If everyone repeats last year's performance:

Kreider - 17G
Stepan - 17G
Nash - 26G
Zuccarello - 19G
MSL - 30G
Hagelin - 17G
Brassard - 18G
Stempniak - 12G
Lombardi - 8G
D. Moore - 6G
Glass - 4G
Miller - 3G

McD - 14G
G - 5G
J. Moore - 4G
Staal - 3G
Klein - 2G
Boyle - 12G

206 goals

We scored 218 goals last season.

Stemp+Lombo = Poo+Brian in goals.

Richards got 20, Miller will get a dozen.

Stralman had only one goal, Dan had a dozen last year.

Dorsett = Glass

Fast will score 2-3 goals more than Carcillo as a part timer.

In all, that's 5-6 goals more than we got last year.

Additionally, instead of 12 goals from Cally/MSL, we will get about 25 from MSL.

So all in all, should be a decent increase in goals. The numbers say +30/31 goals, taking us to 248/249, but every year someone struggles (last year MSL had one goal in 19 games, and Dizzy had just 2). So taking off 15 goals for someone's struggles, we are at 233/234. That would be excellent.

I'm not trying to be all "Wahh they gave the my team projections I don't agree with"

But:

1) Hockey News is a rag...
2) ...who hates the Rangers...
3) ...and put out the worst fantasy guide in the industry

I don't think the Hockey News' projections are really all that crazy.

I don't trust them.
Like I said, hands down the worst fantasy magazine by a mile, every year.

I don't think many are great at projecting, but looking at their projections for the Rangers' forwards, I'm not sure I can argue they are too far off an on a couple of them, in particular Kreider's goal totals, I'd really like to see happen.

Dobber is pretty good. I trust him a lot more than the "we have a clear bias against the Rangers" hockey news. If they said everybody on the team was gonna score 100 I wouldn't trust them.

Pretty sure if Stempniak meets those numbers we will all be very very happy.
