Novak has 6g/3a in his last 9 games while still receiving ridiculously low TOI. He's definitely a player. Teams looking for some soft offense in the middle of their lineup should consider him. That's not usually the kind of guy teams look to for the playoffs, though?

Why?

Berard isn’t the piece they’d want to give up and there are probably enough other options that a deal could still be made. Berard’s motor will him a well liked third line Hagelin-ish type. I don’t think the target is wrong, I just think the Rangers would want to find a different trade than Berard.

I also doubt the Preds would be the least bit interested in a player like Berard, fwiw. A smaller younger player is just not going to move the needle for Barry Trotz. He'd probably dump Novak for just the pick.
