Sure seems to contrast what he said in that article posted above. It sounds to me like he was a young kid struggling to feel comfortable in North America.

I mean, it worked before when the Kings obtained a player from Columbus who was unhappy being there. The Kings have been on the receiving end of prospects who didn't want to come over here as well in the past, and they could benefit from this situation. Worth the risk in my eyes.

Yea worth a shot to push the young kids as he’s ahead in his development. Only basically a 3rd rounder....

I remember Lias Andersson being an absolute stud at the WJC. Great pick up when and if he's willing to go back to North America. I think he is committed to playing the SHL this season, since it already started in Sweden. Hope to see him in a Kings jersey for the 21/22 season.

This is a 22 year old kid who hasn't grown up mentally yet. That can be fixed a lot of times. It isn't like he is 26 and hasn't even begun to see the light. We gave up a low 2nd to get him. Hardly much of a risk. Maybe in a new market without the NY spotlight on him for being such a high pick will help him. When you are a #7 overall pick in NY, you are expected to be a God and anything less makes you a pile of trash. I am not saying that high expectations aren't warranted but LA has less of a heat lamp on players and they are rebuilding so maybe he will be able to relax and restart his career here.

If not, then not much was lost in taking the shot.

It felt weird to rank Andersson because it’s not yet clear whether he will ever play for the Rangers again, but it also felt disingenuous to not include him given that they still own his rights and he’s not going to play anywhere in the NHL without their say-so in the matter. So Andersson becomes an honourable mention of sorts. Though he never should’ve gone seventh-overall in 2017 (we had him 13th at Future Considerations that year and I believed that was too high), I still think Andersson has the tools needed to become a decent third-line player at the NHL level. He plays fast, he can play on the inside, he holds his own physically and he’s responsible defensively with slightly above average skill. I also watched his first game back on the ice with HV71 so that you didn’t have to. He wasn’t particularly noticeable but made a couple of plays worth highlighting. He was most noticeable through the neutral zone, where he (No. 23) made a couple of plays through the middle of the ice, including this one to create an opportunity in front:

Even if his days with the Rangers are done, Andersson still has value for the prospect pool as an asset.

Yes, he scored 7 goals in 15 games last year for HV71 and has a point per game this year, already there.
