thats the problem with "the boss". he lashes out because he's a coddled idiot who never heard the word no growing up, and has no concept of a patient and strategic approach to anything in life. he's a 60-something toddler. you don't need to know anything about him other than his comically thin skinned reactions to any public criticism to know exactly who and what he is. a cursory knowledge of his business history tells you all you need to know about his acumen. if not for inheriting a monopoly he'd have probably lost everything by now.
certainly all indications are drury is well thought of around the league, well prepared, and may prove to be excellent in the role. i don't at all want to take away from his qualifications. but the fact remains no matter how many puff pieces the media members more beholden to info access than reporting put out, this was a rash reaction to jd and gorton being annoyed by another rash emotional outburst of his, and trying to save some face for the organizational standing within the league. if this moron had slightly more than the iq of a handball he'd have seen the benefit to come from allowing the hockey execs who are far more involved and respected in league circles to separate church and state if you will. they aren't whiny pissants, they surely were annoyed with the decision. but you don't call parros out by name like that. you don't call for the suspension you wanted. they knew the issues this team had - but you say those things internally, you solve those problems quietly in the summer and you make your point next year. walk softly and carry a big stick. but as the owner, he can make that statement - it wasn't smart and he needed to own it though - if it didn't come from the hockey side of the house its just an owner being pissed off thats much easier to navigate. everything he said to brooks today was hilarious. it was about exit interviews...are you kidding me? we were going on the road? all the way to boston? he was on point about needing to see more togetherness, but you don't think jd and gorton saw that...thats a roster move or 2 and maturity from the youth. but my favorite, maybe the least self aware statement of all time, was about how everyone needs to be together etc ... days after blindsiding his front office, who unanimously have led one of the more impressive rebuilds in terms of speed and volume of talent acquisition the nhl has seen, with a petty and over the top statement. drury hopefully does extraordinarily well and this just becomes just an ugly moment in history. but don't for a second believe this drivel from media sheeple communicating it on his behalf that he'd been considering these changes, that there was any thought and tact to his decision making. this is who he is, this is who he'll always be. insecure, reactive, entitled, and the biggest obstacle this team is facing in building a long term, successful, cup winning organization.
