We're sitting here trying to piece together the bits of information we have in order to find the logical, level-headed thought process that went into firing JD and Gorton. But like people who have had experience with Dolan have said, he can be prone to irrationally lashing out at people who don't agree with him or criticize his stance.

It feels like we're looking for something (logic) that just isn't there with Dolan's management style, and we're stuck with him. The boss isn't always right, but he always the boss.

Sather and JD probably ran interference this whole time and were able to put out fires. 4 Varlamov shut outs followed by a Wilson DDT was the spark that set off a powder keg. It was always there, it's just a matter of time. From the outside this looks like an isolated incident, Dolan came out of hibernation. But in reality this was probably bubbling under the surface.

What's so concerning? a) It was probably an offhand comment meant to play to his fanbase. b) half the league competes for the cup, why is a team that has a Norris level player and Hart level player not expected to be in that half? Good enough to compete for the cup =/= good enough to win the cup.
