There's no upside for Drury to keep Quinn. If Quinn fails next year and has to be fired, then Drury waited too long to get rid of him and next year is probably ruined. If he is a success next year, there's still going to be plenty of criticism directed towards the coach. Quinn can do no right. One misstep and he is going to be right back in the crosshairs.

Friend or no friend, Quinn is a liability to Drury. Better to start with a clean slate.

this coach is a Gorton hire. tell me the thought process of bringing in a coach (who did not want to be here... read that again... did not...), with ZERO experience in the NHL (who's won nothing) to coach a rebuilding NHL team at that...

This is the brilliance of Gorton that so many are enamored with.

I'm Quinn's biggest critic and I think he's Gorton's biggest mistake so far (maybe other than using JT Miller as a throw in in the McDonagh trade). But every coach has no NHL head coaching experience at some point. It's not unheard of to hire someone like that. His problem is that Quinn sucks. Seems like a nice guy who I'd like to grab a beer with and have a vapid conversation about a goal Fox scored against the Sabres, but he sucks. But no NHL head coaching experience shouldn't be an automatic black mark on your resume.

At the time of the Trouba trade, we had no idea Fox would be acquired, or excel as much as he has. ADA didn’t have his break out season. Pionk was meh. And Shatty had a terrible season. None of the players played the Role Trouba played either.

It's the benefit of hindsight and retconning the outlook on those players at that time. No benefit JG would have been given if Pionk didn't break out and if Fox came in and needed that first year in HFD (he was small and slow). Heck, it was even built in as a condition in the trade.

I don't remember the other candidates at the time but the hot name Montgomery also had no experience before. Pretty sure they were looking at the college ranks for the next big thing instead of an old retread.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Sather was waaaaaaay more instrumental in what went down yesterday than originally thought.
Slats still holds a lot weight with Dolan. When he comes walking thru the halls in his thousand dollar suits, chomping his stoogie , dick swinging from wall to wall he commands respect. He can’t be happy we are a team of cream puffs

Dolan fired JD and Gorton because the Rangers were a soft team. Matt Martin concussed Jacob Trouba. Martin elbowed Zibanejad in the face. Cal Clutterbuck checked Ryan Lindgren into the curved part of the glass at the Rangers bench. Tom Wilson threw Artemi Panarin around like a doll. Wilson punched Pavel Buchnevich in the head.

A very long time ago, Dolan lost his mind after Renney didn't dress Colton Orr against the Flyers. Ben Eager and Todd Fedoruk beat up the Rangers. Orr was in the stands eating popcorn. Dolan read the riot act to Glen Sather and Tom Renney. I believe Brooks reported that at the time. Orr was dressed in the next Rangers-Flyers game.

I remember people on this board were annoyed by what took place in the Flyers games. The Rangers looked like chumps.

SHAN-TO-HAND COMBAT

The Rangers looked like chumps last week too. Those games were frustrating to watch.

Jesper Fast was concussed by Brady Skjei last summer. Nothing happened.

If that is true that Dolan likes his thugs, then story that Dolan put out The Statement is clearly not true.

No no you see we don’t want a retread but we also don’t watch a coach with no experience so we want...I have no idea

Not for nothing everything Dolan said in that article has been said here many many times by multiple posters.

a lack of leadership from the top down was apparent and it has been getting worse for 2 years now. We’ve had nothing but drama

and it’s been in all facets of the organization as he pointed out. Including don’t be fooled the buddy bull shit of signing jack johnson and hiring of jd’s kid.

Dolan did the right thing. He like us sees way too much talent to let it go to waste under a regime he did not trust.

That article kind of eases me a bit but at the same time, only further proves that Dolan's an idiot. I feel like the reasons that are cited there are reasons why you blow up the coaching staff, not the management. We have the talent to win the Cup but there was a weakness in the team? Who does that fall on, Jim?

But like I said, it eases me in the sense that as usual he praises Sather and it seems like he's gonna have a more prominent role than he did the past two years. Ideally Drury has final call on everything and runs hockey ops and Glen acts as that buffer to ease Dolan so that he can run the show.
