I'm talking about his comments about Asians, which is something that has come up as well. Don't for a moment think it's not just comments about homosexuals and black people.

There's a reason no one wanted to touch him this year or even have him around their franchises.

Trust me. This is not the guy to go to bat for, even if you happen to like his politics.
Didn't Montreal want him around the deadline?

There's a part of me that looks at everything and puts together this story:

- Jeff Gorton came in around the 2016 season and fairly quickly started tearing things down.
- Over the course of a few years, Stepan and Brassard were traded, Girardi and Lundqvist were bought out, Staal was sent away. Basically the entire leadership core of the last cup contender is gone.
- "The letter" was sent out.
- With the turnover, Gorton made a number of astute hockey moves at the cost of culture.
- There were a number of stop and starts/incidents with prospects and young players, including Andersson, Kravtsov, and DeAngelo.
- David Quinn, a developmental coach, has the support of Gorton and JD despite getting inconsistent effort and development from the team.
- The Wilson incident happens, and Gorton pushes back because it limits his ability to make hockey moves and operate in the league.
- Dolan looks at all this and concludes that while Gorton is a smart hockey mind and has succeeded in building a very talented collection of pieces, he is not equipped to make the sometimes "sub-optimal" moves that will help turn the collection of talented players into a winning team with a winning culture.

Then I remember we're talking about Dolan and wonder what I've been drinking.

NO WAY do I want Messier here, he doesnt sound good at all on this call. Also seems he is very into this venture business, lol Rangers are going to f*** it up and hire him in a prominent role

honestly, let's hope this is a blessing in disguise. Gorton had some good trades/signings, but lately was not doing great. Team has not had a captain/leader for 3 years. No enforcer protection. bad coaching staff. Not enough physical players. trades away Lemieux, waives a 60 point Dman.

JD, honestly I have no idea what good he did since being hired.

seems to corroborate with what dreger heard.

the locker room has been a f***ing mess. the team has no spine and a total lack of leadership from the top down. I can sympathize why dolan would want to fire gorton with some of the choices he’s made. at the same time, gorton made some good moves. but the locker room is in shambles despite all the talent we have. we may be a uniter. Laf may be that guy at some point, but he isn’t now. we need some vereran leadership.

I pray we don’t overreact over the summer.

I think its become apparent that Talent alone does not make a Team.

And i don't think its about the players liking each other or not, or if they are having fun. There is no overall 'theme' with the team. No cohesive identity.

Chris Drury needs to f***ing hold the line right now. Literally start calling Guatemala with every available phone line in the organization so we don't make a stupid f***ing trade.

Adam Fox, Laf, Kakko for McDavid. BIG MOVE

Where were these Anti-Asian comments made? This is my first time hearing about it lol, never seen any comment about homosexuals or blacks either. Where were those? The remark when he was a kid was about a European teammate being a soft Euro. I am Hispanic btw

If you spend 30 seconds checking the replies on Twitter or Reddit to any post about DeAngelo you'll see the politically motivated backlash, which I'm sure is why teams are afraid of touching him in this current climate.

Meh, if there's a place for Tom Wilson in the NHL I think there sure as hell should be one for Tony DeAngelo

This is about over a year of stuff not going the way Dolan wanted. Lundqvist buyout, likely the hiring and non-firing of a college coach the same way we rag on Quinn. The Tony D exodus. The vaginal team identity. Dolan is all the chaos we are on a nightly basis except he's the owner. We're going to commit to winning now and we're going to get bigger once the emotions cool off and Drury hopefully takes control.

You have the building blocks of a team that can be a powerhouse that you very much lucked into. You cannot continue to let a rudderless group mold these kids. I’ve said it all year this is not ok. You better put these kids in positions to succeed. That should have been priority number one this year and it wasn’t. No one not named Adam Fox or Artemi Panarin is living up to expectations changes needed to be made.
