Two management positions being let go doesnt mean the teams future on ice got worse

but sure stop being a fan; your input clearly was volatile to begin with
Do you have your filter set to my posts only? Because I'm certainly not the only one with this concern.

Or was I the first one you saw and decided to release your insecurities about the future of your own team on? Stop basking in our misery and go back to your own...it's over there, behind us in the standings.

All I know is this not the same Rangers franchise I fell in love with from the Jagr years-2012.

Something is different, even the DeAngelo thing no matter how big a POS is, that never would have happened with the old leadership we had. I mean they kept Avery in line and were able to keep the Torts/Gaborik relationship from blowing up the entire team like is happening with Laine in CBJ

I hate to break it to you, but nothing is different.

Old leadership was worse with Sather and Dolan

I agree. If anything I think JD and Gorton approved of the statement (how could they not? It's not something a social media manager would go out on a limb and say by himself) and Dolan was pressured by the NHL behind the scenes to "correct" the issue.

It's hard to not come to this conclusion.

The question now is cui bono? Who benefits from this mess and why? What does the owner expect will happen next?

If someone like Messier suddenly pops out of the woodwork, (to enforce a "winning culture" blabla we have all heard the sports cliches ad nauseam) it would both be predictable and pathetic but typical of sports franchises and ingrained stupidity.

Regardless of what the reasons might be this is not a good sign for the Rangers long term because it shows Dolan wants to get involved again.

Omg haha, that avatar you have with Sather is a meme I created many years ago with the caption. Strange seeing it after so long, Sather was a master of trades

In one fell swoop, all of the optimism I had for the future of this team has been drained from my body.

We were poised to be a top team in the NHL for years to come. There are two deeply troubling aspects to this move:
  1. A move of this stature means a change in direction. Does that mean we start selling off the future core to build around the current core? It is somewhat comforting that Drury is taking the reins, as he helped the team build to this point, BUT...
  2. This move came from Dolan. No one else has that authority. Many of you are too young to remember/have lived through the end of the Neil Smith era, but Dolan was every bit as meddlesome, short-sighted, and all-around dickish with the Rangers as he was with the Knicks. Sather came in and (eventually) was able to kick him upstairs and out of hockey operations. Will Drury have that kind of autonomy? Today seems to indicate that the answer is no.
So it may be time to dust off this old chestnut: Hockey's Different Here™
I disagree that Dolan was meddlesome. He let Smith and Sather have free reign.
This firing happened because the Boss was clearly upset with what he saw and he issued a very strong statement. JD and Groton have to line up behind him like good soliders. Dolan commands this family right or wrong. JD and Groton forgot that fact and they got whacked.

Lol yea okay

Do you realize that some of the comments that’s he been reported to make include people of different backgrounds.

You do realize that if you knew this person in real life, there’s a pretty good possibility you’d be on the receiving end of the comments right?

He’s not your friend. And from all reports, especially what’s come out when looking into his suspected social media interactions, he wouldn’t be if you met him.

Think about that long and hard for a bit.

What is the narrative moving forward on Gorton/JD if it comes out that they sold out the team and threw people under the bus by not supporting the statement?

IF that is the case, then I will think Dolan did the right thing.

But I still think something doesn't add up to this right now.

Well, setting aside the shock of this... I was never that enthusiastic about JD joining, and I've always been kind of mixed on Gorton. I'm not terribly upset that they're gone.

The timing, the relationship with yesterday's statement, etc., lots to unpack, there. But overall I don't really care that these two were fired. If it happened two weeks from know I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

If this becomes another political debate with Gort's ADA's decision not jiving with what Dolan wanted I think im going to just hang it up boys

This is just so embarrassing, upsetting, and unsettling. Honestly ruined my day.

I know this "screams Dolan" and it in all likelihood is, but I don't get just blanket ruling out that Bettman (i.e. 31 other owners) are behind this via pressure on Dolan after the statement. The timing and lack of other response from the league is way too suspicious. I'm not gonna take a few immediate tweets (via league mouthpieces) to rule that out. And if that is the case, I am 100% out.

In the room it is absolutely different. Rangers strength has been their solid locker room for years now, dating back to Jagr and Shanny and Drury and Naslund. Now they don't even have a leadership group which is why DeAngelo imploded and Wilson was able to run train

Regardless of what the reasons might be this is not a good sign for the Rangers long term because it shows Dolan wants to get involved again.

Yeah if this is Dolan wanting to take on a more hands on approach this will end poorly.

I wouldn't be too sure though. Of all the things thrown out there the IB tweet from the other page makes the most sense.

I'm not surprised about Groton. I had a feeling he was gone at the end of the season. But JD is a shock. He is NYR royalty.
If Incarcerated Bob is right it is moreso that JD said both of us go or neither of us go rather than him being fired outright. Who know's if that's true though.
