I am really hoping that this is what happened.

Literally any other rationale or explanation for this is very alarming as a lifetime supporter of this team.

I just think they were at a crossroads (JD and JG) and they decided that we will address it in our way, but that wasn't good enough for Dolan.

I will say, the Wilson fiasco is mind-blowing to rewatch and I can't help but think that the team (including JD and JG) knows it was missing the element of toughness it needs going forward. For now, Dolan makes the statement but believe me, he's pissed that the two guys who were running the show, preaching patience and building without toughness, didn't want to stand in unity when that same lack of toughness bit the players on the ice in the ass. Yeah, Strome and Bread stepped up, but that's sticking together. There's nothing behind them.

JD has been on the payroll for 1 year. This has absolutely nothing to do with performance, because there hasn't been enough of a track record for that to factor in.

I agree. If anything I think JD and Gorton approved of the statement (how could they not? It's not something a social media manager would go out on a limb and say by himself) and Dolan was pressured by the NHL behind the scenes to "correct" the issue.

NO, its Dolan's stupid f***ing ego getting in the way of managing things properly. This team is nowhere ready to compete for a Cup and in any other division we are a playoff team. I think next year would have been the do or die year, but I bet you this has the makings of Dolan wanting to bring on Messier...Just like when they hired Phil Jackson on the Knicks and that blew over.
