The more I think about it, could this be a disagreement on whether to fire Quinn? Gorton and JD may have preached patience and wanted to keep Quinn while Dolan may have wanted a new coach.

I thought Dolan left hockey to hockey guys and only meddled with the Knicks. The worm has turned and I am baffled.

I am truly gobsmacked!

Also, who had Quinn outlasting JD and Gorts?

On another note. ALL the eyes of the ENTIRE LEAGUE were set on this game tonight. Fans of 29 other teams were NYR fans tonight. And then Dolan - as the infinite, rich idiot he is - decides to WEAKEN the NYR and make the ENTIRE FRANCHISE look like fools with ALL eyes set on them already. I mean, it's IMPOSSIBLE to have worse timing. The man is probably the biggest moron I've ever seen.

Now he changed it to 30 other franchises - VERY much including the Caps who we know are laughing their asses off - LAUGHING instead of cheering. Holy hell is he a MORON. How can such a braintard get so rich with such idiotic sense of timing and lack of THINKING?!

Even IF Gorton etc were against the decision and you want to fire them. How about having some f***ING TIMING you absolute f***tard of a braindead owner?! There's three games left. How about NOT NOW? It's like Dolan is a huge Hulktard and Caps fan at this point.

The answer for who was responsible for what will show tonight. If the Rangers respond accordingly, I will continue watching the NHL. If they play a mellow "nothing to play for" game where nothing happens, I'm DONE! Then I know the "reason" Dolan fired them was because Gorton actually had guts. And then I will be DONE! I will never watch a second of NHL hockey ever again.

Excuse me that's Micheletti
I mean JD and Sam are obviously close. Sam’s getting up there in age anyway. If the reason is Bettman made a call to Dolan kind of thing, that Gorton and JD really were behind the statement, then it gives Sam every reason to call it quits.

we still don’t know the full reason though.

Holy shit...sounds like Dolan got an angry phone call from Bettman

Actually I wonder if the league/Dolan asked JD and Gorton to take back the statement and they refused so they got fired

That letter was ALL Dolan. Gorton and Davidson had nothing to do with it!

As per @NYP_Brooksie, James Dolan is expected to court Mark Messier as his choice for the next president and of the #NYR

I would question Dolan’s approach in this situation, the fact that Drury is as closely linked to JD and Gorton as you can be, and because we now have removed an essential buffer that has existed since Sather took over the team.

Say what you will about Sather, but he was the wall that often kept the tsunami that is Dolan from doing the same type of damage he did elsewhere.
I added the below after you replied to the first post:

I am skeptical Drury will automatically be a figurehead here, he has had numerous chances to move on to other jobs yet he was kept here. I know this is a high profile job but why would he stay here just to have his hands tied and follow instructions to tear down everything he has been a part of building here recently?

Not with this timing.

There's only one logical explanation and it fits the narrative: Dolan wanted this message out and the top two lieutenants didn't want to back it. Gonzo. And there, in one fell swoop, goes the credibility that was being built up with the fanbase since "the letter" regarding the rebuild.
Who's going to want to work for this organization after this? No one worthwhile, that's for sure.
This sounds like something Steinbrenner would have done in the 80s.

I dont think I have posted on this board in over 2 years due to life coming at me for many reasons...However this news coming today is brutal.

I am so sick and tired of James Dolan. The timing of the firing and just the B.S. saying this had nothing to do with the incident. I am OK with Gorton being let go eventually, but Davidson?? Are you kidding me?

Sell the f***ing team Dolan

I’m confused so Dolan hires Leon Rose to be the Knicks head guy and for him to stop meddling, they start having success.

And he takes that information and says “well might as well start interfering with the Rangers”

I know this might just be chalked up to a rich owner being an owner but wtf

I think this has a big role in this decision.

"we need to be a tougher team to play against, be patient."
-JD and Gorts

Team is blown out in three NYI games and can't keep games close with anybody except NJ, BUF, and PHI as of late. Team isn't tough to play against, it's almost too easy.

So what. The team is in the middle of a rebuild. The first part, getting the talent in has gone perfectly, the second phase is about to start with molding a winning team and getting supporting pieces in. This whole thing reeks of someone who doesn't understand hockey making an idiot move overreacting to whatever idea they have of hockey. Or court whisperers behind the scene angling for personal advantage stuck the daggers in. Looks like the Wilson statement was used as a pretext to get the dirty deed done.

Now, IF, it is the league using leverage to enforce obedience and it's (tattered) image, this is BS beyond belief.

Whatever the case, this stinks.
