Lol the organization was "ruined"? For all you know Drury will be better at the job than JD/Gorton were.

That's really not the point.

Yesterday's move reeks of Dolan butting in.

Wants toughness or a star on the roster but JD/Gorts disagree. Maybe Eichel comes now because they weren't willing to give up the prospects

Yesterday made us look like the Knicks. I think it was inexcusable and could be a negative turning point for the franchise.

We will see how this is off-season goes. If we give up the farm for Eichel, Dolan is making it happen.

That's a reflection of our times. Politics has consumed this country since then.

people need to give it a rest and just step away from it for a while. It’s unhealthy.

anyways, heard Friedman mention briere as someone drury has a relationship with (duh). Seems like an odd fit, but would he be a candidate for an AGM role or something similar?

And I'm someone who has defended the Rangers verison of Dolan for years.

I've called him the best owner in hockey.

Yesterday was honestly just a devestating blow to my trust in the organization. I thought we were almost a model organization. Yeah we haven't won any cups but we've always been respected around the league and seemed to do things professionally.

That changed yesterday

I cannot comprehend this. How could you, as a NYR fan, like Dolan and Sather?

This wanna is gonna take some time and work. Everyone was stunned by this, which tells me only two or three people knew.

People within the organization are shitting themselves right now, so that’s gonna make things harder for at least a little bit. But I’ll work at it.

The timing of this sucks because I am right in the middle of a moving process. Sold a house on Saturday, bought one a little after midnight on Wednesday. So I’m a little busy on top of things.

Nobody knew because Dolan wasn't planning on anything. The logic of the move was figured out after the fact. When he says the organization wasn't on the same page, he's talking about himself and JD/Gorton. I feel like the only reason Drury said yes to the job was because he wanted to protect the work Gorton and JD had done.

That said, the point about the veteran leadership of the team lacking character-wise is spot on. I've been very unimpressed with Zibanejad as far as body language all year round. Strome has shown far more leadership unfortunately he makes way too many flyovers during a game. And the criticism of the team not showing up often in big games or in first periods, starting on their heels all the time -- that is very valid and is not purely a player issue. It's a coaching issue too.

Before yesterday what bad things has Dolan done to the Rangers?? Every player who plays here raves about the organization. We get pretty much any free agent that we want. He spends to the cap every year

The Sather thing is a bit of a joke. My name here for years was Fire Sather. I changed it after he stepped down as GM

I did grow to like him, though. We've been pretty well run since 2005.

Just pure speculation on my part, but I think total lack of leadership and unity in the lockerroom wass exposed over the past year.

Another year, no captain, no one to answer the tough questions or take responsibility of the room

Jasper Fast seemed very eager to leave here after spending years in the organization

The ada situation getting ugly right after his resigning

Players starting games unprepared and Quinn looking panicked and perplexed, he was in way over his head

No progress in doing some of of the 'lunch pail' work that needs to be done to be a competitive team. Special teams/faceoffs.

I like a lot that had happened the past few years, but JG being desperate to drag Quinn out of his college gig to be 'the guy' to coach the team and JD willing to stay any course with Quinn made no sense to me, he was outcoached literally every time there was a 'big game' on the line.

We can say this has all of the earmarks of a Dolan temper tantrum, but that still leaves so many questions about what set it off. Was it missing the playoffs? Was it getting manhandled by Wilson with no response? Was it the team statement? Was it the lifeless games against the Islanders? Was it all of the above combining to become a personal embarrassment to Dolan?

But the question I am most intrigued by is how does Drury come out of this unscathed? He was heavily involved in all of the decisions up to this point, and yet he looks better to Dolan than JD and Gorton. His two superiors get canned, and he Littlefingers his way to President/GM. (I'm not saying Drury did anything underhanded. I am just curious to see how we got down this path.)

Lot of great questions. The bold especially is so well said and leaves me deeply unsettled. Encapsulates what I was feeling in a way I never would have been able to put into words.

Perhaps you missed what a disaster ADA was defensively last season. It there was one bright spot this season, it was the defense.
This is ridiculous, are you seriously implying that somehow the Rangers were better off without DeAngelo in the lineup? Think whatever you want about him, the Rangers going from having him in the lineup to f***ing Hajek/Bitetto was a tremendous downgrade and hurt the team immensely.

I didn't know until recently that Briere is the GM of our ECHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners. Buffalo ties.

There have been times where the calls for Kreider and Zibanejad to be named captain became quite loud. But the consistent answer was that neither was under serious consideration for the role, both for different reasons.

I think Zibanejad is a guy who works as an associate captain, but one who serves along side a personality that is different than his.

From what I’ve heard, Mika by nature is kind of a chill dude. I think he’s happy to help out, happy to make everyone feel welcome, but he’s not that kick in the ass type and while I think he contributes to a locker room, I don’t think he necessarily is the personality in the room to steer it.

You guys know me, I don't like to just spitball about grit and "wanting it."

I think that's a cult for some people and they would say it even if the Rangers iced six cyborgs who hunt terrorists, compete in MMA, and play 60 minutes a game.

So allow me to back it up with some metrics.

Guys getting 22 minutes because they deserve 22 minutes:

Guys getting 22 minutes because of the name on the back of their shirt:

I don't care how tough you are, when there isn't accountability, you don't take that extra step. It's human nature.

These two never had problems like this. That's why we kept/acquired them. This developed under the current coach.
Kreider had quite the rebound, his numbers at the beginning of the season were terrible. Panarin wasn't the same player this season without even looking at the numbers you could tell he was off. Hopefully it's not the start of a trend.

A truly golden era. Where we all got along, held annual board awards and played the player elimination game every summer, and we all argued endlessly about the merits of Tanner Glass and Adam Clendenning.

The Golden era of NYR Internet chat for me will ALWAYS be the “old” (original) official NYRbb, circa 2004-2007. I originally thought HFB was dumb, considering there was just an outright love affair with drafts and prospects. It was like no one here watched hockey, everyone would trade any player, even if that player was the sole reason your team was enjoyable to watch, just to obtain a draft pick that could be speculated on for months. The potential for online convo was more important than the player themself. A never ending fantasy draft evening.

Most important question....Does it have a pool?

I digress, for me, I have less faith that Jim Dolan has his fingers on the pulse/culture of the Rangers organization/lockerroom/whatever than the majority of the posters on this board and that is a really low bar to clear. I've already seen what his take on changing culture in an organization is.

He's owned the Rangers and Knicks for a total of 48 team years and they've won exactly zero championships and have only each made the finals once.

...but hey, on the bright side, with Sather coming back out from under a rock like an indestructible cockroach...oh wait I mean like the "Godfather of the Rangers", my avatar can mean something again.

agreed, last season DeAngelo was tied for 3rd among Dmen in even strength points and tied for 4th in total points among Dmen. Next season give him a clean slate under new GM and new coach.

Is it far fetched to say that Sather's buddies are now going to be Drury's buddies now?

Sather seems to have re-emerged from out of nowhere. Could he have been the one whispering in Dolan's ear? Maybe regretting his semi-retirement?

Unknown.

Sather had, for the most part, taken a much less active role in the organization. It’ll be interesting to see how he proceeds.

Not challenging this but in 2021 does a captain really have to be a kick you in the ass type? I mean the Pens made Crosby captain and the Caps made Ovechkin captain, both around what 20? And that was like 15 years ago. If anything I think the league has gotten away from that tough ass style.
