It's still a good place to talk hockey compared to at large social media, but I see what Edge is saying.

We had our problems back during my first few years but the bad faith and blatant trolling is just a lot more mainstream now. Every thread turning into ADA part 69 is probably the best example.

Back in '12, '13, 14', '15, there would be zero discussion about him. Done. Period.

You literally see the posts now that are tying to ignite a fire storm. It’s not even an attempt to discuss the topic - it’s literally just to poke the bear.

We’ve actually had mods quit and or mostly disappear because it got to the point where it was a full time job to control it. And they weren’t allowed to just kick the repeat offenders.

We also have people creating more burner accounts than ever. We know they’re burner accounts. People don’t even bother to correct the typos and grammatical mistakes they make.

It’s not really a secret. And it’s kinda sad actually.

I think the board might have fewer users signing up because these days people just tend to sign up for Twitter and scream about their particular fandom into the void rather than join a smaller, more knowledgeable community where you interact with the same people every day. Everyone's looking for the next hot take that's going to go viral and bring in those likes/retweets/followers.

I think that’s kind of when it started to slide. Maybe 2016. As the site itself died there was definite trend. We’re not getting people signing up like we used to either.
I think the less registration might just also be a sign of the changing times where these niche forum boards are being replaced by discourse on the larger social medias like Reddit and Twitter. Youve been here for almost 20 years so you def have a better understanding of how things used to be but I still enjoy coming here and discussing Ranger related things.

A truly golden era. Where we all got along, held annual board awards and played the player elimination game every summer, and we all argued endlessly about the merits of Tanner Glass and Adam Clendenning.
Oh man, I miss the Boardies!

I used to work for 247. I know what ITK people look like. They profit off their ITK status. This is HFBoards. There is no ITK going on here. Just people posing as such. It doesn't create the toxicity but it definitely contributes.

Okay, so you’d feel better if I quit my job and tried to monetize it?

Lol. I don’t want it to be my job. I worked that realm before. I don’t want to go back to it. I also wrote for this site for 6 years. I don’t want to be on a content deadline.

That’s a choice. And one I am perfectly content with.

Do you think the Rangers revisit talks with Calgary?

It’s possible, if both teams want a shake up. But Calgary might be the opposite of the Dolan regime.

Someone could probably go on a murder spree and they won’t want to change anything.

Def a fair point it gets so annoying how every thread devolves into that toughness and david quinn (Im def atleast partly responsible for that last one). But despite that I still enjoy posting here, outside of snoozers like tonight the game threads are always funny and help provide some alternate views while watching the game.

Who's Drury close with? Any 'buddies'? speaking of other GMs

Right on cue, here we go.

Enough about him. What about Durant? I’m curious as to why people don’t care that he’s a homophobe.
Right on que... well I dont think Kevins action caused a toxic environment in the lockeroom which appears to be what happened with Signore Deangelo

That's a reflection of our times. Politics have consumed this country since then.

I think Dolan is fairly satisfied with the talent on the roster. Something's just rotten with this team. The veterans have declined heavily and have resorted to lazy play. Even Panarin, who is still effective, is cheating way too much. And from the play-in against Carolina to the recent do-or-die games against the Islanders, they've looked like a high school team in every single one of the few games with meaning they've played.

If I had to guess, the issue seems to me to be that Quinn is a huge fake tough guy (Giants fans here will remember Ben McAdoo). He talks a good game about work and accountability, but he just arbitrarily shits on kids and veterans do what they want regardless of any actual results.

I think Dolan wants to change the standards of what players are going to be asked of, and as far as I know, JD and Gorton were both huge Quinn guys.

All that being said, the only thing that makes sense is Saturday being Quinn's last game. If he returns, then I really couldn't tell you what Dolan wants.
For sure. Quinn is a dead man walking. I would be absolutely shocked by anything less than his dismissal on Monday.

After the Rangers' first 15 or 20 games of the season is the time the team, vets included, tuned Quinn out if I can give my best guess. The same way Torts' act ran thin here, so did his. He's past his sell by date. He's rotting on the shelf. Time to discard him like spoiled milk.

Gerard Gallant or Paul Maclean are the only hires that would make me really happy, honestly. To do what Dolan just did in an effort to win now, you can't hand the keys to the castle to a total amateur or a dolt like Patrick Roy or Bob Hartley. Tortorella would be very in line with what Dolan wants to do, and so would Tocchet. Count me as someone who has no idea about what Dolan/Drury/Slats are going to do here, though. Just thinking aloud.

This one is gonna take some time and work. Everyone was stunned by this, which tells me only two or three people knew.

People within the organization are shitting themselves right now, so that’s gonna make things harder for at least a little bit. But I’ll work at it.

The timing of this sucks because I am right in the middle of a moving process. Sold a house on Saturday, bought one a little after midnight on Wednesday. So I’m a little busy on top of things.
