You have to clear waivers to get bought out
He clears waivers tomorrow and gets bought out as soon as the window opens. That doesn't answer why they're doing it right now and not after the cup finals are done and when the buyout window is established.
I wonder if a team like the Sharks just outright claims him. He’s familiar to the team and would find a veteran player signed for 3 years useful to ride with their rookies.I'd have to think someone would pick him up with retention offered. Retaining at 50% is still better than money on the books for 6 years in a buyout.
Really odd that he's getting waived right now in the middle of the cup finals. No one is going to claim him obviously, so what's really the purpose?
Oh they're delusional and hoping someone claims him.
Is this Rose from the Titanic movie?devils will wait until they waive shesterkin
he makes too muchThis dude was one of their best players in the playoffs. Showed more grit and heart than most of their stars.
Rangers fans want to explain the thinking here? He's on the team for the playoffs, not the regular season.
lol for real. Nice OT goal against Florida but he looked washed all season and his metrics were terrible in the playoffs too.Stop with the “playoff performer” stuff. Guy literally shot 40%. He had 6 goals in his 81 previous playoff games. This is an obvious move by NY.

the team may be trying to make a point or move him to a team with interest without a trade. possibly related to him having a 15 team ntc clause.A bit of a head scratcher to me. Yes he had a bad season compared to his previous two (33, 31 points), but this is no indicator that he will have another bad season going forward.
Why wouldn't NYR trade him and retain a million instead of waiving him if this move is purely for cap reasons?
If he is claimed. The way some posters are carrying on around here they make it very doubtful. And you also imply that the sole purpose is to 'get rid of him' for cap room and the idea of garnering a return for that 1M of retention isn't worth it.What don’t you understand? If he’s claimed, his cap hit totally vanishes
If they retain a mil, he still costs 2.5 the next 3 years

Isles sign him for 1M and sticks it to the Rangers
Player playing with heart in New York... can't have that.

Why would we bother? We can resign people like Kunin (ugh) to fill the same role.I wonder if a team like the Sharks just outright claims him. He’s familiar to the team and would find a veteran player signed for 3 years useful to ride with their rookies.
Bernmeister said hi.Maybe this will put an end to NYR fans proposing other teams trade actual assets for him/his contract.
Gets bought out. Returns to Tampa for one year at league minimum.
