Detroit ships out $2.75 in cap and takes on $8.6 in cap? No.

Tatar is probably getting close to 5 million, next year. Maybe more if he puts up 29 goals again. On top of that, adding 4 million is dead weight until 2020? isn't idea for the Rangers. LTIR isn't free money. Rangers politely decline.

Franzen + Tatar for Nash + Mccalrath. Thoughts? Detroit gets rid of cap and a top 6 for a top 6 and solid defensive prospect.

Easy no from Detroit. Franzen might be LTIR, and they aren't trading a young guy like Tatar.

Also, lol at calling McIlrath a top 6 defenseman. While technically true, he doesn't have that upside.

Detroit can't afford it cap wise, Franzen $3.975 million LTIR+Tatar $2.75 Million for Nash $7.8 million+McIlrath $800,000. Unless Gorton was willing to retain on Nash this doesn't work cap wise for us.

You don't think his ceiling is at least a good bottom pairing d man?

Even if we felt that McIlrath was a good bottom pairing D man in our system. We already have tons of the players in our system they need a chance to play. We already have Ouellet Sproul and Jensen that fit this category. So adding McIlrath would make very little sense for us. We need a top pairing guy preferably a RHD McIlrath would serve us no purpose here.

Don't think Detroit would move Tatar for an aging Nash and a headache in McIlrath.

I feel Detroit is really high on Tatar, especially after his World Cup performance.

OP grossly undervalues McIlrath.
no thanks

------------

on a separate but related note as to Franzen LTIR

I would be open to discuss swap of deadwood, one where Wings gain cap relief, but it would have to be swap of vets, not younger core pieces and Staal/Girardi w/NMC each would have to go to Hockeytown.

Again, I realize this has to be a significant bribe; I think there is room to discuss it; obv. NY can only take on so much cap, but we should be able to discuss it.

Last I looked I don't remember THAT MANY NMCs on Wing roster

so
Staal and/or Girardi + possible adds _____
for
Franzen,+ multiple adds _________________ fill in the blanks

How so? Do you know why he made the Rangers last year? It's because it's either a 7th role, or potentially lose a huge investment for nothing if he's claimed. His ceiling is "Good" 3rd pairing D-man, with a bomb of a shot. Unfortunately, most teams have a prospects coming up to fill the 3rd pairing position - so using a guy drafted in 2010 is just going to hold some of those players back. For Dlyan, he lost some development time with Injuries and it usually takes D-man longer to jump into an NHL position, but lets not act like Dylan isn't valued more than he should be, simply because he plays the right side and has some toughness to his game. This isn't to say Dylan hasn't improved at all, but it's not a reach to say a lot of teams would find him useless in their line-up.

Detroit cannot do this because of cap. If there are two teams out there that probably value Nash a lot it is likely to be the Leafs because of Babcock and the Wings because Holland has been a long time admirer of Nash. They talk about him like almost no other opponent. They really like him.

I think they would do this if they could figure out the cap. Problem is they cannot figure that part out to push this trade through and they need a top 4 d-man add if there is a package around Tatar or Nyquist.

Yeah. It makes no sense. Closed.
