To Dallas - Lundqvist
To NYR - Niemi, Honka,nishuskin and a 1st

Rangers are looking to get younger and Dallas are in win now mode .Dallas would have the goalie they need to win it all .

This trade has already been discussed many times and will never happen because Lundqvist won't ever be traded. He has a full NTC and wants to stay in New York.

He will not win a cup in NY, if he had a chance to hoist it in Dallas it would be bye bye NY.

Dallas should probably address they're absolutely putrid defense first.

Rangers probably can't do this because Hank is a New Yorker through and through, winning aside.

Stars can afford to give up what it would cost to realistically acquire Lundqvist

The 1st round pick on top is unlikely, something around Honka,Niemi, nuke and maybe a cap player back to NYR for lundqvist anda winger is better but so many complications with this trade in reality

No. Fixing goal is top priority. This isn't the way to do it though.

They lost two excellent defensemen in Goli and Demers and haven't replaced them. And a good defense can mask average goalies. They should fix both though.

The defense was good last year but Demers was either good or brutally terrible depending on the quarter (of the earth year).

The goalies were horrible and the problem.

This isn't a good trade. I don't see Lundqvist wanting to leave NYR, and I don't think Dallas would want to give up something like that for Hank.

Johns filled in for Demers seemlessly when he went down and Hamhuis is Goligoski replacement. I agree Hamhuis is a slight step back but the 2 have been replaced already

Hank wants to stay, he has the NMC, he retires a Ranger.
I'd like to pay you to take Staal or Girardi w/his NMC, but I don't see it.

That leaves
we can talk about Raanta for now and a high end G prospect to cover you going forward, plus Nash as an upgrade over Hemsky.

Cost is Gurianov + Honka, and possible upgrade on swap of picks depending on which G prospect is going

They have an average goalie and a better than average goalie. Even at that, their average goalie has backstopped a team to the Stanley Cup before.

Defense matters.....a lot.

They are most definitely no longer average.

Pretty sure the Rangers are trying to win too...getting rid of their best player for some minor pieces and late first round pick probably isn't a good move.

Which is why the team didn't want to commit long term to Goligoski, Demers and Russell. Nill is banking on his prospects and has been, in measure, since he came to Dallas.

The most puzzling thing to me as a Stars fan is how everyone has said that our defense was just terrible for the last two plus years, yet when we get rid of the guys who were the core of that defense, somehow we are worse off? Suddenly Goligoski and Demers were two of the biggest pieces of FA even though they were key pieces to that terrible defense? Bottom line, our problem was that we had hoped that we were rolling out a 1A/1B situation in net with a couple of average starters, yet what we got was much, much worse. And it wasn't because of defense. You could almost sense when a goal was coming at the most inopportune times.

Yes they are ,but realistically they have too many 3rd -4th line players and not enough stars . If Hank wants to win a cup his chances are much better with a team like Dallas ,who in my opinion are a great goaltender away from the Stanley cup.

in what universe are goligoski and demers excellent dmen? :D goligoski is awful defensively and demers was good first half of the season and awful in the other half :help:

this is a deal that should have been made in the early summer had the Rangers thrown in the towel for a rebuild or maybe it happens at the next deadline.....a rebuild should start with Hank. But they didn't do that and instead stockpiled offense and did literally zero to improve their defense. Obviously a trade is coming just not for Hank.

Dallas wins the cup with Hank, no doubt in my mind. Those assets cover the price for Hank as well as the salary Dallas needs to move to make it work. I'm not sure Hank would waive his NTC to get a shot at winning. In another time, this might have been a deal similar to what it would take to trade for Hank.
