Depending on how long Barron is out, I could see the Habs claiming him to be the 7th D.

In all honesty, as long as you understand what he is, he's not a bad option. If you're looking for a cheap #7/8 to fill in as 3RD, it'd be tough to find someone better for cheaper. He's a guy you can scratch for 80 games and put him in for 81 and 82 and he wouln't miss a beat and you wouldn't stunt any development. Is he going to be a solid, high-value top 4 dman? No. PMD of the year or SAH of the year dman? No. Decent 7/8, sure.

If you go to Olive Garden expecting fine Italian cuisine and are disappointed, the problem isn't with Olive Garden, the problem is you.

Yep. Pretty much the perfect #7. The problems with him only became problems when he was asked to be more than a third pairing guy. Not many skaters out there can claim spending a dozen+ years in the NHL with only one season of 50+ games.

Could not have said it better. Prety much exactly what he is.

Side note, my son took his first skate lessons in the San Diego ice rink that Ruhwedel learned to play at. Got to meet him when he brought the cup to San Diego, could not meet a nicer guy. Hope he finds a gig in the NHL again.

I would have to think Utah claims him.
I wouldn't wish that on any one.

The issue with Ruhwedel was he hung his partner out to dry more than you liked to see, just awful with knowing when to hang back and support and where to be a lot of times. But as a 7th he was ok, at this stage though? There's better options that teams waived earlier that can be had for a late pick.

Ruhwedel would be a desperation claim for Utah, they're better off giving the lads from their farm a whirl instead.
