To NYR: Ryan Murphy

To Car: Oscar Lindberg

Both teams deal from positions of strength to address a weakness. The Rangers get a RHD who seems to be odd man out in Carolina. This might help be a stop gap until they land a big name puck moving RHD.

Carolina gets Lindberg who has not found consistent roster spot after coming back from off season surgery. Defensively sound and potentially capable of producing 10 to 15 goals in a bottom six role, Lindberg might thrive given more ice time in Carolina.

For both team low risk trade centered around personnel that aren't considered essential. Hell, Murphy might be waived at some point, I don't even know if he is on the roster atm.

I wouldn't mind it, but we know either he or Clendening is going to the AHL with this trade. They are the same type of player, both won't be sitting in the stands.

It's not an overpayment
But I would hold onto Oscar while he heals up here.
Lindy is available, but Murphy is not the return.

Lindy is reliable 3C value, known commodity
Murphy is a total gamble.
He has skills, but seems soft.
at one point, because he is slight in height, people thought Zuc was not tough enough, and he since has convinced he is fully capable of playing with larger guys
but there is no basis to assume Murphy can do it.

7th round draft choice, conditional futures if Murphy proves after year or 2 he can earn a spot here, and that conditional is relative to value he is likely to have, if a best case scenario, of 2nd or more likely 3rd pair value

I mean, I guess so. :dunno:

This ends up being a guy who likely won't crack the NYR line-up (Murphy) for a guy that likely won't crack the Car Line-up (Lindberg). Maybe it's due to the injuries, but so far this year Lindberg looks like less of an NHL player than Murphy, if that's even possible.

Before the season started, I thought Murphy's value to the Canes would be that he'd play enough minutes to be fodder for the expansion draft so they wouldn't move him for just peanuts, but even that thought has evaporated. I'm now of the view that the return for him of any trade will be minimal at best.

The Rangers already have Clendening sitting because Vignuts is a moron and would rather give Girardi 20+ minutes a game.

Would much rather hold onto Lindberg as depth for injuries.

The Rangers would be smart to hold onto Lindberg, if he wasn't with the Rangers a trade could be worked out but the Rangers trading with division rival Flyers wouldn't happen.

Flyers and Rangers are not good trading partners and never have been, but I like the way Lindberg plays.

I'd offer up a late round pick and Scott Laughton since he hasn't been able to crack the Flyers line up for Oscar Lindberg.

Only reason I would want Lindberg is to play with Flyers Swedish prospect that plays for Bryan's IF Oskar Lindblom next season on the Flyers roster.

Not good partners here. The Rangers are looking for a RHD. Not a center who can't crack the team and a late pick. There is no need to rush a move and downgrade. I'd be shocked if the Rangers picked up any new forward unless is was a waiver move.

Lindberg wasn't as good as the points he piled up early last season indicated, but this season he's been really bad. Not even close who's been the worst player on the team. He can't move this season because of hip surgery, and he wasn't a good skater to begin with. He doesn't score enough to be a top 9 forward, doesn't PK, doesn't win FO's that well. He's a 13F.

I would do this. Rangers have too many forwards. Murphy gives them a gamble RHD. Rather do this then some huge package for Shatty

I would do this and have thought about it in the past. The only major reservation I have is that AV is unlikely to play Murphy. Clendening is the superior player at the moment and he sits on a nightly basis.

I guess the reality is that it would force AV to play Clendening or Murphy and if it was Clendening.....that is ok too.

Picking up Matt Puempel off of waivers and he plays over Lindy????......that has to tell you something about what they think of Lindberg right now.

Lindberg is just behind physically after major surgery this off season, he could use a few weeks of pure conditioning.
