If both stuck around, I think you'd find yourself changing your tune on that over time. Neither has more than borderline skill but Carrick is a warrior

Carrick is respectable as a 4th line NHL player and as stated in the post right above he's a warrior. Groulx really can't do that same 4th line job and he's not good enough to be in the Rangers top 9.

Just the way I look at things but you really have to have a mindset like Carrick's to play on a bottom line. It's basically about sacrifice.....not worrying about the points but playing a hard forechecking and back checking, grinding physical game. Being defensively responsible and accepting the more unappreciated, thankless (mostly by the fans) jobs that helps a team win even if it doesn't often show up on the scoresheet. It's not to pick on Groulx but he's never been that kind of a player. And for Carrick it also shows up in who he fights with (which he does fairly often). Mostly it's been guys who are very good at it and bigger, stronger than he is. He's a character player.
