I'm going to be tracking player approval ratings this season.

Love the idea but... That's a lot of questions. Have you ever heard of survey fatigue? Your better off doing a select few.

Also, I used to do a poll on a monthly basis that asked how likely is it that the Rangers make the playoffs. It will really interesting as the season progressed. Can I suggest you do something like that. :)
I'm confident in Ranger fan's ability to rate 30 people on a 1-10 scale.

And the playoff confidence poll (compared to their actual playoff odds) would have very predictable results.

Ranger fans be like:

Is it fair to give Tanner Glass a 2 despite not playing a game for us yet?
What's 'fair' is up to you.

I don't subscribe to the thought that you can't judge a player who's played hockey for 15 years until he's played for the Rangers, however.

I guess this poll will return in the PGT post after every game / every week ?

The ones that I'll be interested in following are how the impressions of Sather, AV, and the newly signed guys and kids change throughout the season. Terrific idea.

The only player or coach I gave an assessment on who hasn't played for the Rangers yet is Tanner 'ass because we all know he sucks anyway.

I think everyone else got an above satisfied or no opinion. I know some of the new guys have played a decent amount of NHL hockey, but I haven't seen much of them, or only checked the stats so I will wait until they have performed in NY before rating them.

This should be an interesting evolution by the end of this coming season.

I voted as well. Anyone new who hasn't shown what they can do yet got a no opinion, and no one got below a 5 or 6 for me. Should be a cool project 31.

I tried to vote based on performance.

i.e. McD was a 10 despite the occasional mistake--he's just a force, and he can play in any situation. Same with Talbot--10 from me. He helped to right the ship early on when we were shaky. I was pretty happy with MSL--came in and did what he was supposed to once the playoffs kicked in. I expected a little more from Staal. I thought Klein looked pretty damn good in the playoffs, especially when he started moving up, carrying the puck, and taking shots. Zuccs was pretty much a ten from me. Some questionable plays every once in a while, but he's been a force for us.

I mostly voted n/a on the coaching and staff. Overall, I think everyone's done a good job, but I'm not really sure as to who's responsible for what aside from Vigneault, Sather, Gorton, and Samuelsson. The Glass signing really affected Sather's score (never mind his past signings/trades).

For a lot of the new acquisitions, I tried to rate (those I did rate) based on what I thought of the contract. Even though it's pretty obvious Glass was brought in to bang bodies, the fact that it's a signing that I feel was overpaid affected the score pretty drastically. Not his fault he was overpaid, but I think there might have been better options given his past performance.

No opinion on any of the new signings and our new coach.

Was probably a bit harsh on some guys, but I wouldn't be honest if I just said I'm perfectly happy with everyone's performance

I voted based on what I expected of them vs. how they performed.

For example, I gave Talbot and Zucc both 10s for performing their roles much better than expected.

I could see this poll--people voting on the players on last year's team.

Voting on a team that hasn't even been to training camp--WTF is that? Right now it just looks to me like another 'I hate Tannner Glass' thread--and it's not that I don't get that Glass got more $ and term than he should have but it's not like we can't bury him or trade him if he doesn't work out or even that his cap hit is some huge ****ing cross to bear. It's a little less than $1.5 mil per--about 1/50th of the teams overall cap or about 2%.

I think it's interesting to see how the fan opinion of the new adds changes from now through the end of the season. The option is there to choose no opinion and most voters are choosing that for the summer additions, and that's fine.
