I do wonder what Nylander would/will fetch in a trade. Some GM may just be enamored with him.
Nylander is worth MUCH more than that on the open market.Nylander knows hes worth at least 9-9.5m on the open market, Leafs are offering much less.

All of the ufa comparables floating around here decided to not use their leverage to test the open market. They chose to stay with their team at a aav/term they considered fair without a bidding war.
But bidding wars for a 40 goal/90 point players (3 points shy) would get out of hand. It would be significantly higher than 9 mil.
Nylandrers stats the past 2 years are BETTER than Tavares' stats his last 2 years before ufa. His bidding war had teams offering 13 freaking mil (but we don't know at what term).
I'd say an open market bidding war next year over a 40 goal/90 point Nylander when the cap is (allegedly) significantly higher will be somewhere around 11 mil.
Tavares is a likely HOFer. Hard to call that overrated.Nylander is nowhere near as overrated as Tavares was though. Tavares got hyped up by the Islanders fans kind of like the Canes fans and Pesce. The Leafs fans should really try this hype stuff, it seems to work quite well, at least on HF.

If he is looking at 10mil, you trade him right away for great packageIf Nylander is asking for more than 10 million on an 8 year deal he needs to be given a chance to negotiate with other teams and be sent packing
A first round pick and the other teams top prospect that is ready to crack an nhl line up can be the return
If he wants 10m, what makes you think other teams want him for 10m? Looks like his demands hurt his trade value. If he is looking at 10mil, you trade him right away for great package

I think with the Bert’s signing and Knies being the real deal. It shows that the team is willing to part with Willie or MM, assuming Bert and Knies played well and bring intangibles that Leafs lacked. The optimist in me says Tre has been battle tested with situations in Calgary (Tkachuk trade, and Gaudreau walk) that he'd be ready to play a little more "rough" with the agent - if they seem far apart.
I.e a stiffer deadline...and less dragging feet.
We shall see. I bounce back and forth on Nylander trade/stay...I'm sure the new GM has less of an attachment, as long as Shanny and Co. Haven't stuck their nose in on these decisions
That ++ is a former 1st rounder who had yet to play in the NHL despite Islanders lacking in scoring and the other one is a former 1st rounder who acted as cap dump.Lou paid mid-1st++ for the privilege of signing 30/30 Horvat with no defense for 8.5x8. No, the center gap does not cover 2 years of cap inflation + the absolute canyon offensively.

When did Horvat announce he wants 10m+?Lou paid mid-1st++ for the privilege of signing 30/30 Horvat with no defense for 8.5x8. No, the center gap does not cover 2 years of cap inflation + the absolute canyon offensively.
If he was a top talent worth 10m, Leafs would have signed him. He's not worth 10m and doubt any teams think this too.Teams that need top end talents.
The main reason why all those mid tiers UFA are always signed for over market value is bc teams can’t sign top end guys and can only trade for them.
The problem is you will need quality to trade for someone like Willie and not a lot of teams got that.
I can see Seattle asking with Wright and a Dman plus future 1st coming back our way for Willie.
I don’t think Willie is 9.5mil talent. He should be around 9mil.When did Horvat announce he wants 10m+?

We also don't know the term San Jose offered Tavares. For all we know it was 13 x 4. The usual suspects love to use such rumors to rationalize the unprecedented dramatic overpayments.
Tavares averaged as a low 30 goal ppg player. The fact that he was the 2nd highest cap hit in the league for even one second is quite frankly shocking. How much are ppg players getting on the open market today? We're seeing 100 point players signing for less than 10, let alone (lol) 13.
Nylanders stats the past 2 seasons are BETTER than Tavares final two seasons before becoming a ufa. Is anybody going to offer Nylander 13 mil?
Agreed.I think with the Bert’s signing and Knies being the real deal. It shows that the team is willing to part with Willie or MM, assuming Bert and Knies played well and bring intangibles that Leafs lacked.
Will Willie read it and say, can’t ask for the moon as they have internal replacements for me, let’s get something done fairly bc I want to play in TO.
I don't think Willy gives a rats ass about Toronto.Agreed.
I think Willie will need to want Toronto, as much or more than we want him (and I'm sure we want him quite alot)
But we're unable to back the brinks truck up for him AND he clearly knows we've explored the options on trading him. So, either sign a respectable deal or managment must decide what's best for the team.
If he wants that cap spike payday, then sign a 2yr deal and bet on yourself. Win a cup...then make 10m+ from a team with a shitload of capspace.
