Rumor: Nylander like Matthews unextended. Nothing to see here.

Pp time i giving it to you, thats where nylander could really help leafs

But 5v5
Marner 2.08 pts/60
Matthews 1,92/60
Nylander 1,85/60

Matthews 0,96 goal/60
Nylander 0,67/60
Marner 0,59/60

Goal against
Marner 1,33 goal against/60
Matthews 1,52 goal against/60
Nylander 3,19 goal against/60

Its just100% normal than matthews and marner was playing much more at 5v5 than nylander. Producing at higher rate and by far less risky in the defensive end

Offensivly yes the gap became smaller but defensivly the gap just become higher so at the end, the gap still the same for me...
Are you using the same "last three playoffs" as the original discussion?

Nylander had the most ES points and was tied with Matthews for most ES goals, with less ice time, so I'm not sure about your per 60 numbers.

Looks to me like thrre us no love lost berween AM and WN.
Willie says sign him first, and see if our toothless leader gives something for his team.
Then WN may sign.
This all points to room issues.
The fact that they keep having to bring in "Good Room" guys all the time to "Help" the leadership group pretty much tells us there is an issue in the room. If Ryan O'Reilly is leaving your team for the same money offered...you know this room must be a complete mess.

I wouldnt be shocked if there is a rift between the haves and the have nots. Players making the kind of money that these guys make should have leadership. They all come across as a bunch of spoiled brats who only worry about themselves and if the other guy gets more then them.

The fact that it is taking this long to sign Nylander and Matthews is telling. They obviously are going to give Matthews what he wants so there is no reason to drag on unless there is something going on behind closed doors imo

maybe nylander at 4x10 makes sense

1) willly gets his high aav which he has earned
2) playing on his toes for next contract
I think that is a bit high for him. BUT, if you have made the decision to go forward with the current core...do it if that is what needs to get done.

That deal will make next year tough, but then after that you have a lot more room in 24-25. So if you 'overpay' Nylander and/or Matthews, sure you will have less cap space going forward but you do have flexibility in 2 seasons going forward.

If you think this core can win, you hare 80% "in" already. might as well sign them both and go in 100%, as the downside for the duration of those contacts won't be that bad once Tavares and Brodie's deals are over.

I'm skeptical of this claim.

If he asks for much more than he's worth, I'd trade him as well. It would really suck to do that but sometimes hard decision have to be made.

Who was playing against 1st opposite line?

Who is the best leafs pk player?

% of offensive start last 3
Nylander
2021 62,9%
2022 78%
2023 68,8%

Marner
2021 57,8%
2022 59,9 %
2023 62,3%

So playing toughest matchup, penalty kill, more defensive start, like 2,5 X less goal at 5v5...

yes its 5v5 stats of last 3 playoff

nylander had 4 5v5 goal, only 1 since game 4 against montreal. Where nylander had succes at even strenght is at 4v4 and 6v5... kind of situation will play at best an average of 2-3 minute by game. So yes its normal than marner/matthews playing more at 5v5 so having more ice time at ES

Not only that, but Nylander was taken off PP1 this spring. IMO this is pure lunacy and is the main reason for me saying Keefe should not have a job coaching this team any more.

Nylander is better at facilitating the puck than being a net-front guy, and he is worse than Marner/Matthews at facilitating the puck, so I think that is the biggest issue, not that he was not good enough for PP1. Also, we had one of our best PP% in the playoffs in recent memory, not even sure how this is an issue.

I'd like to see a 5F setup (maybe not with Klingberg now), but other than that, it is hard to give Nylander a meaningful role currently. It is easier without ROR.

It is weird how everyone on the team talks about how close the team is and then people just make assumptions like this based on their amazing detective skills and jumping to conclusions.

They could sign for 11 days so far...

That's not what you said though.

Pittsburgh is also kind of a comical example. There was very much a "they can't win paying these guys this much" narrative there, too. If you want to have to have this very different discussion than you started earlier, let's talk about Yzerman and Ovechkin, too.
I can imagine what would be said about Crosby...

Top cap hit AND shorter term!? That Crosby is so greedy and our GM can't negotiate!!
Yeah he gets assists, but like where are the goals though??
That Ovechkin guy signed for 13 years and our guy only signed for 5?? Trade him because he's clearly not committed to the team! He's just going to leave in UFA!
So soft. Points are okay I guess, but drop the gloves once in a while ya softy.
Too top heavy! We need to trade Crosby because we need depth! Think of all that cap space we'd have! Surely we'd use it in these best possible unrealistic ways I've picked out.
That Ovechkin guy hits. Why can't Crosby hit? He thinks he's too good for hitting?
He whines to the refs all the time! How about just power through when somebody tries to kill you instead of going to the ref!
This guy only had 37 points last year and we lost in the first round and we're signing him for 12 years??? Unprecedented dramatic overpayment!
Injury prone! Broken! Yeah he's good when he's there, but he's clearly never going to be close to a top player again. Never going to play more than half a season again obviously.
(In 2015) Our cup window is done. Our core is basically retired at this point. Our core is a failure. If I asked you when we drafted Crosby if you'd be satisfied with 1 cup after a decade, and only getting past the 2nd round twice, would you? Of course not! Failure!
Four first round losses in a row, and then missing the playoffs altogether? Proven loser. Get rid of this guy. He's done.

Ahh... Would be fun.

Ok thanks

There are basically two types of NTC as well. One where the player is required to submit a list by a certain date, and the other is an on demand type of thing, where the team asks the player to submit a list. We have no idea which type Nylander has, and if it's an on demand, we have no idea if it's been demanded yet.

I think there were reports (whatever they're worth) that his list was submitted July 1st. But yeah, that's the normal day for submitting, so we still don't actually know.

Nylander's M-NTC CLAUSE DETAILS: Player submits a 10 team no trade list.

Tre needs to ask Willie to give him a list of teams he will extend with and then work out a trade with one of them like Winnipeg and Ottawa did with PLD and Debrincat.

Nah... Willy had to submit the list by July 1st.

Trying to put together a list, so who do people think are the best comparables for Nylander?
Let's say in the cap era, with UFA signing status, and at least a somewhat similar age.

Awesome, thanks!
I'll have to explore that feature on capfriendly.

I put all of his data into CapFriendly's Contract comparable calculator. This is what came out. The average is 12.1% for these guys.

12% works out to... roughly 10 million a season? Meaning as much as people here don't want to admit it, his agent isn't that far off?

Pretty much. Also, EvolvingHockey runs a model as well.

""

If we get him in the low 9's, that's a pretty team friendly deal, if it's 8 years.

I completely agree. I've always thought 9.5 was a number that would get it done. Both sides move and it's close to FMV (though I think he gets more as a UFA).

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see that until September though (unless he's traded).
