Proposal: Nylander for Panarin

Old school 1 for 1 hockey deal.

Rangers send Toronto Artemi Panarin with $3 mil retained, for William Nylander.

Rangers presumably extend Nylander at $10 mil AAV, but he's several million cheaper for this season which makes the money work. Short term pain for NYR with three seasons left on Panarin's contract, but after this season the NYR cap situation gets a little bit easier. Toronto gets a superstar wing on a discount compared to what they'd pay Nylander.

I see benefits of both sides doing it but I'm not sure the $10mil for Nylander is what the NYRs will want in that first year. After that, it's Nylander's new deal + $3mil. That's expensive for Nylander. I imagine the point of trading Panarin was to open up cap space for others, not ultimately take on MORE cap while getting the lesser of two players.
