It's a good move because they can flip him to a contender for a decent asset pretty easily if they themselves aren't contenders.
He wasn’t terrible ?Fire Darche. Palmieri was terrible last year. No reason to have an aging Palmieri taking ice-time from younger players.
$4.75 AAV for a guy who played all 82 the past 2 seasons and scored 30 and 24 those years. Theres much dumber moves you can make as a franchise (like extending Chris Drury as a GM).
The Rangers hate is real
But honestly isles are morons for not trading Palmieri for young assets / picks
New GM probably had to honor Lou’s offer
He went from taking up 5.7% of the cap to 4.9% and was third on the team in goals. He actually had more than Nelson.I actually like the deal overall, you might argue it's like 250k to high but the term is perfect
Still a productive player and the deal overall isn’t bad. Theres much dumber things a GM can do then sign a productive veteran for a short term deal that’s moveable if it comes down to it. Palmieri as a 3rd line winger who scores around 25 a year with the ability to move up/down the lineup if necessary is actually the right move. The Rangers hate is real

Fetid deal though I suspect the ink was dry on this one when Darche came on board.Solid deal
OkFetid deal.
The Isles can’t help themselves by having a single offseason where they don’t add a contract that won’t age well.
Yeah, I know it’s only 2 years. I still stand by what I said.
Would you rather have Palms or them signing Andrew Ladd 2.0 again and overpaying in AAV and term for a UFA? I’ll take Palms and what he brings over another Anthony Duclair.Fetid deal though I suspect the ink was dry on this one when Darche came on board.

I’m not buying the take that we’ll flip him at the TDL in year 2.
God forbid we take a flyer on a younger, lower tier UFA or a similar young player via trade.
He's from the area, he doesn't want to leave. He clearly is hoping to be flipped at the trade deadline when NYI are out of it. If not then here is there to mentor the next gen ?
Truth be told I don’t hate the Palms signing as much as I’ve stated only for the reasons you mentioned. It could’ve been worse but honestly that still doesn’t justify it IMO.Would you rather have Palms or them signing Andrew Ladd 2.0 again and overpaying in AAV and term for a UFA? I feel like Lou not moving him was mainly because the return was probably trash. From what we’d suspect, they probably wanted. 50% retention and were offering a mid round pick plus some garbage contract in return. I’d rather keep Palms then get back a 4th and 2m useless player to help a playoff team out.Truth be told I don’t hate the Palms signing as much as I’ve stated only for the reasons you mentioned. I’m still pissed Lou didn’t flip him at the TDL for a second round pick or better.
In any event, it’s still been a great offseason.

His new deal has a full no-trade clause in the first year with a modified 16-team no-trade list for the 2026-27 season. Not sure how easily he will be to flip with those conditions. It's a good move because they can flip him to a contender for a decent asset pretty easily if they themselves aren't contenders.

Lou, it looks like we found your burner account. Am I surprised at the NMC for Palms? Nah, it was all your doing you sly, elderly devil.
