Considering all of the latest rumors from insiders, here's one of those silly 3-way trade proposal!

NSH
Klingberg (Coming in with an 8 years extension "sign&trade")
Weber (So they can use his LTIR-ement moving forward)

Trade logic: Saros is arguably a top 10, near top 5 G this year at 26 signed to a reasonable contract for many years to come + Ingram is showing promises; hence lessening the blow of losing Askarov. Having Josi, Ekhom, Fabbro, & Klingberg as their top 4 for years to come allows them to regain that strong Dcorp status of prior years. Also gives them more control over the Weber situation (which would be dire if he was to retire early. - I believe his contract is insured; so little to no cost to ownership.)

DAL
Petry (with $2M retention, so AAV remains the same as Klingberg's for next 3 years)
NSH' 2022 1st round pick
Habs' 2022 3rd rd pick

Trade logic: Dallas remains uninterested to extend Klingberg over 8 years and have apparently shown interest in bringing in Petry. Flipping Klingberg for a guy who can slot in on the 2nd pair and take his minutes for the next few years at the same price could be key to remain competitive. Not optimal for Dallas to trade away Klingberg for a UFA-rental price at the TDL and disrupt their top 4 without a replacement on the way.

MTL
Askarov
The best of DAL's 2022 1st round pick (either theirs or NSH's)
Grimaldi (Cap dump)

Trade logic: Primeau has disappointed so far and their new GM has mentioned wanting prospects closer to be NHL-ready than draft picks. Askarov fits that bill and solves a position of need moving forward. Petry wants out, and the Habs want more darts in the 1st round of this year's draft. Retaining on Petry, taking on a cap dump on top of flipping pick #65-67 allows them to achieve that.

Habs have Dobes and Dichow whp are treending just as well as Askarov (not saying they have the same talent)

Habs would be looking at F or D help before more goalie prospect

Full breakdown:

Nashville gives up: Yaroslav Askarov, NSH 1st 2022, Rocco Grimaldi
Nashville gets: John Klingberg, the dead contract of Shea Weber

Dallas gives up: John Klingberg, DAL 1st 2022
Dallas gets: Jeff Petry ($2m retained), NSH 1st 2022, MTL 3rd 2022

Montreal gives up: Jeff Petry, $2m dead cap space (retention on Petry), the dead contract of Shea Weber, MTL 3rd 2022
Montreal gets: Yaroslav Askarov, NSH 1st 2022, Rocco Grimaldi

My assessment: Montreal makes out like bandits, Dallas gets very little for their trade, and Nashville tells you where you can go and shove this [redacted] [redacted] of a [redacted] proposal. You set yourself up for spectacular failure the instant you tried to go into this with the notion that acquiring Weber's dead contract is somehow something the Preds want. I really thought we were long past that particular variety of nonsense ever being taken seriously, but, well, here we are, apparently.

Dallas has one of the better RHD rentals in the past few years and we move him to get an older Dman + moving back in the first round? why does Dallas do this?

If Klingberg gets moved it will be for a first in return or a really good prospect, not for an older Dman and a worst first rounder.

Value is out of whack and also who cares about Weber? Why would he retire and pass on the free money?
He is LTIR forever....worthless to Nash

outside of this trade not working for anyone, especially Nash / Dal, the Primeau evaluation is OFF. He's played 65 AHL games and 17 NHL games. He has NO business being in the NHL. He needs at least 2 more years in the A minimum. He's with the habs because, incredibly, price, allen, montembeault and McNiven are all injured

What are the habs giving up for a return of askarov and a first exactly??

This might be one of the worst proposals I’ve seen, I’m not even mad I’m impressed with how brutal it is

Ever since it was reported that the Habs aren't wanting to sell low on Petry, Habs fans have come out with some insanely high valued proposals. Generally asking for a 1st + a teams top prospect + even more in the deals I've seen lol.

So Nashville gets yet another rhd to add to their collection of rhds? Doesn’t make sense . We don’t need Klingberg or the hefty flipping contract he’s going to want

you realize Nashville trades Ellis in the off-season so that we could get younger right? Not going to trade a bounty of futures for a player in a position we are strong in. Askarov likely won’t be traded since by the time he’s ready to take the reigns Saros will be about ready to go UFA. But if we were to trade Askarov it would be for something we actually need

First off the Weber thing isn't happening, so you can drop that. Secondly, while I would say Nashville needs defense, we're looking more fore a 5-7 who can play in the top four in case of injuries, not a top 4 guy who is going to cost a lot.

A 1st + our top prospect is just way too much to give up for a luxury.

The 1st round pick is nice and all but I'd be surprised if the Habs have any desire to retain on Petry for another 3 years. I'd also think that seeing how Weber is LTIRetired, that cap hit isn't as big of an issue as it was before. Personally, I would also want the Habs to stay miles and miles away from Askarov as possible.

Oui

Nah sincerely I was under the impression that despite the new changes to the CBA, Weber's potential retirement in a few years could still negatively impact them; hence tacking him in.

(Under the impression that Bettman would be a lot less likely to contest Weber's "injured status" if the full effect of an early retirement was to go against a southern team vs. as currently shared with a Canadian one.) - This was a "plus" in there following that line of thoughts, but obviously can be removed.

Again people, the whole premise is based on what keeps on being discussed around the media (with GMs apparently still seeing Petry as having value near that of last year, where he was in the running for Norris + the USA team.) I get that his production this year is horrendous, and for sure a decline has occurred, but to say he went from top end RHD down to worth scraps in a year where the whole team has imploded and he's asked for a trade a while back already, putting in no efforts whatsoever, is a reach and the reason why none of us are actual GMs.

The line of thinking with Petry to Dallas here is also based on the fact that, again, medias have been rumbling about them looking into Petry; hence the speculation/offer here.

Just another silly proposal guys:sarcasm: don't take it personal. ;)
