Unironically Avs should have gone for Matt Murray instead if this was the alternative. He’s the Leafs 5th goalie atm but playing fine with the Marlies
Lankinen wasn't our choice. He wanted to test the market and try to find a place he could get more playing time. He's making way less with Vancouver than we paid him in the previous seasons.Nashville should have ponied up a little more salary to resign Kevin Lankinen.
Lankinen has been keeping the Canucks in the picture and hasn’t lost a game on the road at 9-0-0.
It ain’t no downgrade. They could run the game with no goalie and it still wouldn’t be a downgrade.Paid a 6th rounder to downgrade in nets, 10/10 Avs, solid work.
The Avs saved 700K on the Cap. This all could be part of a bigger play.
Ah fail. I have no idea then.No. They took on an extra 700k this year and next with this trade. They also gave up a pick, and got the older goalie.
Seems W3dg3wood is at least less than FourgievW3dg3wood keeps getting worse with time. Seems like a great teammate- but below average backup nowadays

Want to elaborate a bit more? Im looking up anything to back this up that the Avs have a poor system that leaves their goalies out in no mans land overdepending on them and stats arent backing it up.Prime Hasek would allow 3+ goals a game with that defense and system. If you keep trying goalies and get the same results, it's not the goalies.
He never would have a realistic chance to usurp a goalie on a vig money 8 year contract and he knew itIt can be both. At least Askarov getting a season to be backup gives him a chance to usurp Saros.
Nothing at all to do with the Preds signing Saros for 8 years, effectively blocking Askarov from being the starter? Nothing at all? This is incorrect. Trotz ha stated that when he offered Wedgewood the contract he was informed that the plan was for Askarov to be the back up and that unless Askarov had a bad camp he would likely be in Milwaukee.
He told Askarov that the backup job was slated to be his in the summer, a few days later Askarov came back and asked to be traded.
The Askarov trade had nothing to do with Wedgewood and everything to do with money ( Trotz was never going to give him 2 million a season ) and having basically no competition in front of him.
Hey remember how Trotz traded Askarov because he signed Wedgewood with term to backup Saros and now has traded Wedgewood away two months into the season.
Great asset management. I can’t with this guy, man. Annunen at least has some value and is younger I guess.
Uh huh, tell me more of this system that you speak of? Because it isn't the Avs, that roster in 22 sheltered the goalie(s) especiallyPrime Hasek would allow 3+ goals a game with that defense and system. If you keep trying goalies and get the same results, it's not the goalies.
Just look at Ullmark(Vezina to mediocre)with Ottawa or whatever plug Vegas throws at their net. Goalies are irrelevant in today's hockey, it's all about the D and the coaching, goalie stats will follow, and whatever Bednar's doing, it's not working. They're lucky they had that elite roster in 22 that could outscore their woes, now they actually have to fix the issue.

I’m confused by this trade. Both goalies have shitty numbers this season but at least Annunen is only 24 and has some upside.
This is not an upgrade for Avs. Weird.

Yes it played a part but I was correcting the notion that we traded Askarov because we signed Wedgewood, that was not the case.Nothing at all to do with the Preds signing Saros for 8 years, effectively blocking Askarov from being the starter? Nothing at all?
This is a pretty horrid take. No empirical data backs this up at all.. just selective "vibes" I suppose.Goalies are irrelevant in today's hockey, it's all about the D and the coaching
