That's actually a steal by Nashville. Wedgewood is done. Colorado is just throwing away a pick and getting older to continue to suck in net.

I'm sure there are AHLers around they could have had cheaply that would be better than the colorado goalies or wedgewood.

Colorado probably would have done better offering something for chrona or murray (ii) from Nashville ahl team than getting wedgie.

This is very interesting.. Colorado praying Wedge can come in and at least split with Georgiev. You would have to think they are looking beyond this though. This can't be their only move.

He's not a split goalie type backup. He's a 70-30-ish type backup to a starter . Can be ok for stretches but also awful for others and then you need to ride your starter.

The more I think about think about this, the more I like it for Nashville. Annunen still haa some potential.

But it makes 0 sense for the Avs. Wedgewood is an adequate backup if your starter is a workhorse like Saros or Otter. There's also 10 Wedgewood's available every year on July 1. Hell they could sign Martin Jones today.

It should be malpractice what the Avs are doing in net. A team wanting to contend, going into the season with a starter who isn't a top 40 goalie in this league and an unproven rookie backup. And then to trade assets for a guy they could've got for free?

There's guys like Gibson and Blackwood available who are at worst, competent starters.

Annunen plays a similar game to Saros (just obviously not at the same level). Smaller, agile goalie. He's still got some potential.

Well, the only way he's only going to play 30 percent is if they punt Georgiev and grab an actual starter. They cannot keep running Georgie out there at a 70% clip.

Wedgewood isn't a sexy acquisition, but he's won 38 games the past three seasons.

I know he's struggled this year, but Annunen has been borderline unplayable for the Avalanche recently. Last year, Colorado was really careful with the opponents they were willing to start Annunen against, but they haven't had that luxury this season. Teams have figured out his lateral movement issues, which has led to a 4.26 GAA and .826 SV% in November.

Hey remember how Trotz traded Askarov because he signed Wedgewood with term to backup Saros and now has traded Wedgewood away two months into the season.

Great asset management. I can’t with this guy, man. Annunen at least has some value and is younger I guess.

Flag on play. Askarov wants a chance to be a number 1 goalie and that was not happening with the preds

I just made the same point on the Preds board. Thinking a goalie that could easily be waived was the reason Askarov wanted out is nonsense.

In a vacuum, moving Wedgewood for Annunen is a solid move. Props to GMBT where it's due

Hard to really credit Trotz at this point. Great coach but feels like every move he makes is the wrong one. Guess we will see.

I don’t mind the trade in a vaccuum but honestly it would probably just easier not signing Wedgewood and playing Askarov.

Wtf?
And why? Wedgeworth is not the droid you are looking for…
Sure, Annunen wasn‘t that great either, but if you trade him get at least an upgrade.

And for Nashville…who is now their backup? Annunen? Then they have to see something in him he hasn‘t shown for years.

The hope is 80-20 at this point. The 20 needs to not be giving away games like Annunen was. Not like he had garbage D in front of him either. The Avs D has played reasonably well so far this season with the big guns spotting you goals and still the goalies cant earn a win.

Was there goalies on the market for free? Maybe. Maybe this was getting Annunen out of their system.
