The Colorado Avalanche with their goalie situation problem :
You do realize that the Avs did exactly what you said by playing their AHL goalie from last year. And it didn’t pan outI don’t get why these teams keep recycling crappy backup goalies the same way they do coaches
Bring in some random AHLers who overperform there that don’t get the chances. Never know when you get a Hamburgler run, an Alex Lyon or a Tim Thomas (not a full tim thomas, but a decent goalie who thrives).
Even if they don’t pan out, you might get some extra wins out of a goalie with less of a scouting report on them from other teams
Sakic loves to go bargain bin hunting for his goalies that's for sure.
This now year 3 of Sakic not being the GM. Im sure his opinion matters, but I doubt MacFarland calls up daddy Joe for every move.Sakic loves to go bargain bin hunting for his goalies that's for sure.
Yep, Sakic is very lucky he inhereted such a good core and won a cup but hes not been that impressive of a GEMSakic loves to go bargain bin hunting for his goalies that's for sure.
wedge is I think, one of the more reliable true backups in the league. He wasn’t that horrendous last year, and was pretty good the previous few years.
Sieve this year, but such a small sample size
lol wut?!Yep, Sakic is very lucky he inhereted such a good core and won a cup but hes not been that impressive of a GEM
That was the plan-Wedgewood was brought in with the assumption he would be waived and sent to the AHL. Askarov wanted out because of the Saros extension. Why didnt they just bring up Askarov....he's better.
Trots should be fired.
Ummm what? I’m sorry, you can’t look at some of his trades and say that?Yep, Sakic is very lucky he inhereted such a good core and won a cup but hes not been that impressive of a GEM
Uhhhh, what? Think you might be confusedYep, Sakic is very lucky he inhereted such a good core and won a cup but hes not been that impressive of a GEM
I would be surprised. But I guess we’ll find outwould not be surprised to see wedgewood do alright on colorado but the avs goaltending still stinks even if he improves
they have no real starters and a bad tandem situation at best
youre assuming wedgewood is the backup. this is the avs we are talking about.I like how Avs management sees their “starter” repeatedly give up 4+ goals over the course of two years and their reaction is “the backup is at fault”

Nothing. He stunk to start the season, maybe got a little better as Mitch Korn and Vanderklok worked with him, but he is not the upgrade you are looking for.He obviously has warts but can Predator fans at least fill some of us in on what he does well?
Yeah and rather positive the two years beforeHe was 90th out of 98 goalies last season in goals saved above expected. Stars fans were ecstatic he didn’t re-sign in the offseason.
for the avs sake i hope they go after gibson next but i think they'll do blackwood.
It can be both. At least Askarov getting a season to be backup gives him a chance to usurp Saros.
Wedgewood is a decent goalie, but I wouldn't call trading your young prospect goalie for a dime a dozen backup "proactive."You got to admire how the Avs aren't content to just let the team figure it out. They've been proactive about the goaltending.
You’re right, Bednar will probably refuse to play him and start Georgie 50 straight games where he gives up an NHL record 300 goals against in that time span
