I mean we still have Molendyk, L'Hereux, Kemell, Wood, Svechkov, Surin, Schaefer, Edstrom, from the first round and three 1sts + two 2nds this year.

You didn’t have those 1sts when you went on and on about how elite the prospect pool is

Askarov
Pärssinen
Kemell

Were massive part of that argument and none of them are providing anything to Nashville

As I said in the past it was always about quantity over quality

Yeah, and then Askarov asked for a trade. A 1st and a recent 1st(Edstrom is 1c on Sweden's WJC right now) isn't a horrible return. Molendyk and Gibson are Canada's top pairing.

Id say we're still 5-10 in terms of prospect pool. The guys I listed are just our recent 1sts.

Another really good trade by Colorado. Looking forward to seeing what they do at the deadline, because they're my favorites for the cup this year.

Parssinen had some flashes that to me were the type of guy you don't trade away for scraps. I think he's still got 3C long term upside with a slight chance to be better. He plays a possession style, play making, cycling, coming off the boards, head first into the net, from the behind the net type game. It's not fast though and that's prob why they hated him in this lineup. He isn't a good transition player at this point probably because he's not a quick/twitchy style skater. He cycles and possesses very well though and there's a basis for a really nice player. He's got a knack for using his length to shield the puck. We called him the Finnish Bonino as a prospect, but I think his offensive flashes early on surprised us preds fans and maybe showed there's more skill and creativity there.

I hate this move. They don't know how to use him and don't think he fits so they throw him away. Really frustrated with things as a Nashville fan and that's a huge understatement at this point.

I hope my Oilers do a deal with Nashville soon.

That's a great pickup for Colorado. 2027 3rd for a young potential 3C. Therefore, I hate this.

Very happy to see Parssinen get a chance elsewhere. He is a good player, better than Tomasino, and in the right situation I think he'd be better than Tolvanen also. Probably not quite the impact that Fabbro has had so far. But he's a legitimate NHL player.
:handclap:
Agreed. I think the most well rounded of those 3 forwards and I was the highest on him. Would've ranked them Pars, Tolvy, Tomasino.

Realistically the Avs don't have much ammunition left to make multiple significant moves at the deadline.

This year they basically only have the NYR 2nd since the 4th rounders they have are tied up by the conditions on the 5th round pick (see below).

In 2026 they still have their 1st but the Avs have tended to hold onto their 1st's more often than not in recent years, with the only exceptions being when they were forced to use one to acquire a starting netminder when Grubauer left them high and dry, and when they had to dump Johansen as part of the Walker trade. In 2023 and 2024 they had 3 1st rounders all of which they held onto at the TDL. As such it seems unlikely that CMac would trade the 2026 1st.

In terms of prospects the only ones with significant value are Ritchie and Gulyayev. Gulyayev might be available but I doubt CMac would trade Ritchie given that he's the only legitimate hope of filling the 2C hole internally in 2.5 years when Mittelstadt hits UFA.

Behrens was trending well but won't have any value now after a season ending injury. The Avs surely won't trade Nabokov as he's their only legit goalie prospect at this point. Beyond that there's the 2024 draft class where some guys have been trending reasonably well but not enough to make them cornerstones of TDL deals.

So yeah it basically boils down to NYR 2025 2nd and Gulyayev in terms of deadline assets. Perhaps the Avs make Malinski available in the right deal, especially considering that he's likely to price himself out in the offseason as an RFA, but they'd still have to replace him at 3RHD so it seems unlikely.

All-in-all, the Avs have already effectively spent almost a years worth of picks (ie. 2nd + 3rd + 6th + 7th + Kovalenko) to upgrade their goaltending and to acquire Parssinen. They do still need a 3rd pairing LHD who can PK, so I'd expect that will e the prime focus of any deal they look to make ahead of the TDL, with that NYR 2nd and a lesser prospect earmarked for that trade.

It seems Trotz is GMing like he wanted GMs to act while he was a coach. But it's a different job, and you have to think more about asset management. I'm not sure Trotz does.
