Only reason I see is that Parssinen is waiver eligible and Pavel isn't.

Maybe they're looking at getting someone else on the roster (call up or trade).

@ Avs fans, Parssinen will be good for you guys. Brunette ran him into the ground here. When he's playing with confidence, he's steady and reliable but Brunette pretty much drained him of all of that. He has potential that was on full display his rookie year but has dwindled a bit since because of the above but it's there and there is still upside in him.
