Yes, I'm very well aware what the title of thread is. I simply popped into say that the entire premise of the thread is irrelevant. Was that not clear?
What is very clear is that the thread was created by someone looking for other poster’s opinions, a sensible person would avoid such threads if they had no interest in those opinions.

Now how much would you pay Marner after his calm performance at Four Nations and of course his steady stellar player last couple of years.

He is a complete player

How much would you trade for and pay him for ? $1 more than they gave pajamaboy Tavares.

Reading this thread, it certainly looks like Marner is going to get paid.
And he should get paid, the crap he gets is ridiculous and I am pretty sure unless it's an insane contract that gives him total control, he's as good as gone when it hits free agency, those reporters and the bs he gets from leafs media isn't going to go away. I mean should a player leave because of that? No, but when they put kid gloves on against the blokes that actually deserve the hate he got but they never give him that benefit? Yeah I'd bounce too, because if you're going to be made the scapegoat over the ones that deserve it, why the hell keep hoping for different?

It's his chance to see his options in free agency during an off season where the cap goes up and teams will have a lot of cap to spend, he'd be stupid to sign any contract right now.

Mitch has a better PPG than Matthews in the playoffs, and has led the Leafs in scoring 4 (going on 5) times during the RS. He didn't choke in the 4 Nations, and is a premier two-way playmaker.

He's deserving of something in the 11.750 to 13.250 range. Ottawa doesn't have the cap space, but if we magically rid ourselves of Amadio, Forsberg, and Perron - I'd offer 12.500 for max years.
you are correct. matthews .872 < marner .877 = As straw man as it gets. how much hardware has he won? Cause Matthews has quite a few

Just won a cup. Reality is that game was higher stakes and more “important” than a cup. Thr president of the US was calling. 10 million in the us watched. It was a massive game.

A cup was handed out in August. Olympic golds are handed out in February. Seems like a great month to be a clutch performer.

Why does he give up the extra year. That makes no sense to me.

If he wants 13….. he has to make up 2 million a year to break even. If he wants out. Why not get traded for an extension
What an absolute total load of bullshit. Reality, yeah right.

You're either not a Leafs fan or you're just embarrassingly coping due to the team's, and Mitch's as well, failures when the real NHL season stars. How else could you say such garbage? You know how long Leafs fans are going to remember that 4 Nations thing? Not long. You know how long they'd remember a Stanley Cup? For the rest of their lives, and the players involved would be legends that would never have to pay for a drink in Toronto ever again. They'd be heroes of the highest order and it would absolutely paralyze the city out of delirium. Think Boston Red Sox in 2004, Chicago Cubs in 2016, etc...the weight of decades of suffering would melt away. It would be like ascending into a higher plane of existence.

f*** outta here with that 4 Nations bullshit. My lord. No hockey player in North America grows up dreaming of winning a tournament like that, they grow up dreaming of holding THE trophy. The one that lords over all in this sport. Unless you're European I don't want to hear a goddamn thing about those international tournaments meaning more than the Stanley Cup. The political crap does not change that and these are hockey players before they are political ambassadors. I'm American and the US could lose every game in every international tournament for the rest of my life (yes, id say the same if they had won, 100% don't care one way or the other) and I wouldn't give the slightest iota of a shit if I could see ONE Stanley Cup...I'd literally cry like a baby.

The Cup is everything. That is why you play the game. It is why you dream. The 4 Nations thing will be forgotten about...a Cup win in Toronto would never, ever be forgotten.
