4.5 * 5 is fair for both Danault and the Habs considering the cap will probably remain the same during his contract.

assuming he'll only accept 5 or 6 years

Bon voyage...

5-6yrs at anything over 4M$ would be regretful with Suzuki-JKO-Evans in place (and Poehling, if he plays at C, pushing from the AHL).

2-3 yrs at 4-5M$, maybe even 5.5M$ (moreso bc of the particular cultural situation of the organization) could make sense, but anything more $ or term-wise would not be good cap/roster management imo

as a UFA I dont think theres any way he'd accept less than 5 years.... and he would surely get it from many other teams given what hes proven this season/playoff, also being a top 7 in Selke voting the past 3 seasons has a lot of value.

But yeah. Evans' emergence may lead Danault to test the market.

Agree. 5/6 Years for a Defensive Center with very little point production is way too much. Let him walk.
I think back to the regular season and my first thought is let him walk...I wouldn't shed a tear if he walked to be honest with you.

witch player is the most valuable from half of the season to now ?

Gallagher or Danault ?
If the Habs need to trade someone to get $$$ to sign a free agent ( Ovechkin :naughty: ) i would trade Gally. And re-sign Danault

cant sign Ovi with Suzuki, KK, CC, and ROmanov's contracts coming. Danault for Gally contract would cancel out.

I would only offer a 2 year max deal. No more than Taffoli that’s for sure.

Toffoli is not a good comparable. Anderson is. Toffoli as a UFA was not a hot target but Danault as a middle 2C will be. Supply and demand sets the price. I think the right number is $5M AAV but I feel he stays and does not explore the market if he gets Anderson's cap hit.

We got lucky with Toffoli. He flew under the radar. Danault won't fly under the radar IMO.

However, I hope you are right and I'm wrong

A 4,5-ish cap hit would be about right in my book. I'd go as far as 5 for 5 years but anything more than that would be too much. Pageau is a fair comparable ,I can't see paying Danault more than him.

Honest question... Who is providing more value in this playoffs? Pageau or Danault?

I do feel Danault's AAV will fall around $5M - $5.5M range and he settles if he gets NMC part of the contract. Habs clearly want him to stay and Danault clearly wants to stay. They will find middle ground.

It's hard to quantify the shutdown work Danault has been doing and how big his role has been within our system . Pageau has been producing way more offense though and is every bit as big of a part of his team's success.I'd probably give the edge to Pageau if I'm being honest.
