So the Kings look like they are headed into the playoffs despite the recent rash of injuries. They look pretty deece against many oppponents as of late even with the likes of Troy Stecher on the blue line. So it looks likely that we’ll make the playoffs as a young team.

Normally, young teams like this making the playoffs for the first time have a tendency to get bounced in the first round often by a lower seeded playoff- veteran team. For example Ovie’s Cup run. In the case of powerhouse teams, teams like 90s Detroit and many other examples lost early in the playoffs in their first 1-2 runs before establishing themselves as mini dynasties.

However, I don’t feel this may be the case with this Kings team. We may do some damage. Here’s why:

The veteran players, both native and newly acquired all seem to have a ton of playoff experience.
The 4 existing Kings with 2x Cups and the 2013 run (Quick, Kopitar, Doughty and even Brown if he makes it back
Viktor Arvidsson - many playoff games with Nashville including Final
Philip Danault - a few playoff games playing an important role and last year’s Final
Alex Edler - many playoff games and also a Final in 2011

That’s a lot of Final experience, and I especially love that the above players not only played key roles in their Final runs but are hungry to get the Cup.

So despite the fact we are carrying quite a few rookies/sophs, I feel like we can do some damage in this years playoffs.

Thoughts?

I think we have a good shot to get out of the 1st round if we get EDM. If we do that and we are rolling, who knows. This team has surprised us ALL season long, wouldn't be shocking if they continued that into the post season. But at this point, I'm just concerned about getting in first.

Almost as jinx-y as starting a playoff avatar thread  Maybe "the replacements?"

But I agree, this team is a total wild card in every sense. I could see us getting swept, I could see us sweeping. Could see us suddenly scoring 5 goals a game, or none at all. Part of the fun is zero expectations, this is house money, vs. the heavy expectations that come with being Edmonton or Calgary...

Don’t forget about Maatta, who won two Cups with Pittsburgh. Vets handing off to a new group is the way it should work.

This season is already a success for me as is. We’ve gone from a rancid turd to a decent hockey club with serious playoff expectations , all in spite of a ton of injuries down the stretch.

still work to be done and this offseason should be full of activity, but the direction of the team is heading in a good place regardless of us, and I’ll borrow from some our fellow King fan, being soft as hell, undersized, lead by a boob of a coach and a moron GM. We are ok folks.

im okay with meeting the worlds best player(to never have won a cup) in the playoffs as long as their goals keep playing the way they have been almost all season

If the standings hold and the favorites win their playoff matchups, the Kings path to the finals looks like Edmonton, Colorado and Calgary. Home ice in round one and then the advantage to the opponent.

Stiff matchups, but no proven playoff winners on the bunch. If they get past the second round, they could go on a deep run.

I think we're better off falling to the #3 seed and being the road dog in round one.

In a EDM/LA matchup, all the pressure in the world will be on the Oilers. They come up short in the playoffs AGAIN, against a team they're supposed to beat, and it's another year of prime McDavid/Drai being wasted. They're spending to the cap. They have to win NOW.

Meanwhile not many people expected LA to make the playoffs at all. Kopitar/Quick/Doughty/Brown have already won their cups. LA's future is in front of them. Making the playoffs at all is just gravy.

Plus the Kings have shown they're a very good road team. Actually better on the road than at home.

I like that setup for us.

Anyone else remember how fun and exciting the 2010 playoffs against Vancouver were? I'm expecting that.

We are 4 pts out of a playoff spot. We didn't clinch sh!t yet.

I don't believe in jinxes but they are no way a lock to make the playoffs. They have 4 points on Vegas who has the same amount of games played but every other team in the playoffs has less games played and the Kings are only 3 points ahead of the last wildcard spot. The Kings basically need to win as many games as Vegas the rest of the way.

I've said it before but I'll repeat myself. I'd love to see the Kings make the playoffs and take out Edmonton in the first round and I don't think that's unrealistic.
