I mean yeah, the dude has been a powerplay merchant in the NHL so far. He has had bad on-ice results (even relative to the bad Hawks stats) and mediocre 5v5 production so far in his career.

He's more than 100% correct. I still remember being terrified every time MacKinnon touched the puck his rookie season, felt like he could make something happen at any time. Don't have that at all with Bedard.

Bedard is a twig, light as a feather. Doesn't scare anyone and would probably get shut down bad if the Blackhawks ever make the playoffs. That dude just doesn't play winning hockey yet, no matter the point totals.

Yeah he's a talented kid but he's just never going to live up to the crazy expectations many had for him.

The problem with many of the modern rebuilds is these kids are on islands without good role models and they develop bad habits/don't learn good ones.

I think it's a bit unfair to compare style of play to Crosby and Ovie though. They are built differently and came into the league playing a gritty brand of game.

I thought Bedard would be more Kariya lite myself but Paul was light-years ahead in his d plus 2 year in terms of his all around game.

Needs to get more powerful/explosive. Needs a proven coach and needs more support.

You need more than an elite shot to thrive at this level, but Bedard also doesn't have the supporting cast yet to make up for the other weaknesses in his game. This is why the upcoming Draft is so important, the Hawks have a few very tantalizing options to potentially pair with him in the years to come and they can't afford to screw it up.

Mackinnon and Hughes were far from special early on. Bedard is on pace for 75 points on a tire fire of a team. He’s physically immature and doesn’t have help. It’s impressive when most people can pick apart holes in his game and acknowledge this team is brutal and that he’s also almost a PPG player.

Give the kid 2-3 years here. He can’t even drink in the city he resides in.

I still refuse to believe the Bruce Boudreau we see today ever played a shift in the NHL, let alone did a sit-up.

Chicago needs to get a center and let Bedard play the Wing. He's just physically overmatched at the Center position and if he's trying to play a two-way game, on a non-competitive team, he's going to be exerting too much energy on the defensive side to allow his 5v5 offense to show up.
