We're all still hungover from the draft yesterday. The Williams trade might be the most important trade in Kings history. I was SHOCKED that we gave up O'Sullivan and a second to acquire him, but it was arguably the best move we ever made. We don't win two cups without Justin Williams. We might not even win one.

Justin was a very big reason the Kings won those two Cups. Infact the biggerst reason they won them. Thank you Justin fpor your contribution

Impossible to not love this man. He'll never get his number retired, but all of us will remember his contributions to those 2 cup wins. I look forward to the day I get to tell my children about Mr. Game 7.

He, Mitchell, and Gaborik were three guys with questionable histories as far as their health goes that really paid off when we got them. Gaborik's health ended up being an issue down the line, but he was a big contribution to 2014's run.

What’s crazy is that Dean was going to get him for ONLY O’Sullivan until Hammond leaked the deal.

Oilers threw a fit and the entire three way deal almost fell through, so Dean had to add the 2nd.

That was the beginning of the end to Hammond’s days as a legit “insider.” And like always, Edmonton is a joke.

I am thinking about this right now, and I am not so sure. Obviously, the Kings are going to have their hands full with retiring numbers here over the next decade or so as Brown, Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick are all locks to going up in the rafters, which may end up being ridiculous, but honestly, Williams spent 7 seasons in LA and only barely played his 8th after coming out of pseudo retirement for the Hurricanes. The Kings were very nearly the club he played the most NHL games for. He won the Conn Smythe, was intricate in our winning both cups, played 427 games in LA. While I agree with you that he likely won't, I wouldn't put it past this organization or the brass up top to include him in some way in that group.

Anyways, I was one of the few that was jumping for joy when we lost O'Sullivan and ended up with Williams. He was the shot in the arm the team needed, was one hell of a player, and an even better guy out of the locker room. I wish Williams nothing but the best, and even though Carolina will snatch him up instantly for their staff, I hope he spends some time with the Kings in some capacity in the future.

I feel like every thread for the past 5 years has been a Williams appreciation and Kings eulogy thread. What more could anyone possibly say? I'm sure we had it when he left, in his first game back here, when he semi-retired after 18-19. When he signed with the Caps, when he left the Caps. When he signed with Carolina. When Carolina did well in the playoffs.

No worries. He’ll be up in the rafters in Raleigh.

The biggest clutch performer this team has had, right next to Chris Kontos and Warren Rychel.

He likely won't get his jersey number retired, as we've seen others like Gilbert, Cammalleri and Leipsic wear #14, but Williams should definitely be honored. We probably won't see it happen until fans are allowed in the stands, and it would make sense to do it when the Hurricanes are visiting Staples Center.

C'mere, bud. I'll hug you even though mommy never did.
