This guy is one of the best, faster left wingers in the league and he is always over looked when times come to select a national sqad. It's beyond me that Draper, Bertuzzi (the bum), Doan and even Smyth were selected and not him !

Not all the players on the team are there for offence and speed :shakehead

Look at the four players you mentioned, and look at Tanguay. Tanguay is a wonderfully skilled offensive player. Very smart and very creative. But he's not going to bring you much more than offence. Bertuzzi brings size and aggressiveness to go with his skill. Smyth, Draper and Doan have all won multiple times for Canada. (Smyth is one of our all-time biggest winners). They form the checking line. Do you think Tanguay could be on the checking line? Of course not.

Thus, Tanguay would have to supplant Gagne (no bloody way), Richards (Conn Smythe and World Cup winner), and Nash (watch last year's Worlds to see why Nash was on the team) as one of the left wingers. Heatley (another perennial winner) can play LW, too.

If one of the skill wingers goes down, Tanguay is likely No. 3 on the replacement list. (I'd say Kariya is No. 1 and Marleau, who has played the wing in SJ, is No. 2). But at this time, Tanguay just isn't one of our top three offensive wingers.

i think i should expend on my last comment... not taht i believe that he definetly should have a spot and wasn't taken because he's french, but there is enough good french representation on this team so it's normal that a group of english coaches picks english players when you have a choice between 2 players, as a french coach might have pick Tanguay over, i don't know, Bertuzzi, doan or someone else

We are deep.

Tanguay would make any other national team, but not this one.

To clarify: it is not the coaches who pick this team. It is the highly-successful tandem of Wayne Gretzky, Steve Tambellini and Kevin Lowe. Lowe, of course, is from Quebec. Tanguay's birthplace had nothing to do with his omission. Kariya, Marleau, Crosby, Shanahan and Morrow aren't French, and they aren't on this team, either.

I do not disagree with you, some other guys could also have made the team, all i'm saying is that in a situation where you'd have to pick between Tanguay and and english speaking player that is as good as Alex, 99 out of 100 times, english canadian managers such as Gretzky and Tambellini and LOWE (and give me a break with he's from quebec, it had nothing to do with the province, it had something to do with the spoken language and Kevin mostly speaks english) will pick and english player and it make sense as if the managers would have been Jacques Demers, Jacques Martin and any other french executives, they might have favored Tanguay over an english kid...

Yes, Simon is french, but why is he there, because he's talented, sure but if Ken Hitchcock would not have push for him to be include in 2002, Maybe Simon would be in the same dilemna as Tanguay, but is foot is already in the door so it's easier for him to stick in than to get in, which is wat Alex needs to do

Well I'm not sure why Hitch would have pushed for Simon to be on the team considering he wasn't the Flyers coach at the time. Hitch took over the Flyers after the 2001-2002 season and this is his 3rd year as Flyers coach. If I recall, Mario really liked Simon and actually wanted to play with him in the Olympics, which may have played a role in Simon making it. He also was worthy of it.
