I think the more plausible scenario is the league never gets back to play this season and the 8 play-in teams each have a 12.5% chance at 1OA.
Just a small note: Now that the lottery has been held, should the NHL not continue the play-in round as scheduled, they will give the lowest 8 play-in teams by PTS% (TOR has tiebreaker with CBJ) an equal chance at the 1OA pick (12.5% each).

Crazy season--crazy draft--crazy play in. You get the felling...

Confusing as it is I do believe that if the Rangers beat Carolina they can't get the 1OA pick. Part of me wants the team to do well but part of me would like a shot at 1OA ( yes many us would ).

Crazier is having a draft and not knowing if we have the 1OA, or somewhere between 9-16 or we pick at the end of the draft--it was exciting for about 30 seconds when they said we have 8 cards not 7 cards but somehow the NHL made it more confusing then ever.

LA getting the opportunity to draft Byfield on top of their embarrassment of riches at forward prospects is something

I don’t think NHL players are tanking a playoff shot for a chance at a 12.5% chance at 1. They have careers and reputations. Whose to say you ever even get a playoff shot again?
You mean players and coaches think differently than message board posters?

can’t wait to see what the plan is after one team gets swept in the play-in Series and the league goes into lockdown before the other series conclude.

And the ping-pong reads . . . New Jersey? Wait? What? Next up, rock/paper/scissors?

Interesting, and all these teams either have their picks or have a condition to keep their pick if they win a lottery.

yes...the play-in round is technically not the playoffs

But it's still considered playoffs for stat keeping, right? Meaning if a player scores 3 goals in the play-in round they count for his 2020 playoff stats and not regular season since that's officially over.

i don't know what they count as but its not the playoffs

one thing we should all be able to agree on is that we should be rooting for arizona to upset nashville....1)each team below us that advance gives us a better pick even if we don't win the lottery and 2) keep taylor hall away from the lottery

It would also make the pick they have to give to the Devils lower.

If Its not us give Arizona the first overall. Better than Montreal or Toronto or Pitt.
With that GM of theirs the team isn’t going anywhere

interest note on ottawa. they will be the 5th team since 1971 to have 2 picks in the top 5.

The previous times

1988 - Quebec took Curtis Leschyshyn at #3 and Daniel Dore at #5 (Roenick, Brindamour and Selanne went 8-10)
1997 - Islanders took Roberto Luongo at #4 and Eric Brewer at #5 (Marian Hossa went at 12)
1999 - Vancouver took Daniel Sedin at #2 and Henrik Sedin at #3
2000 - Islanders took Rick Dipietro at #1 and Raffi Torres at #5

So Islanders did it twice...oddly it happened 3 out of 4 years from 97-00.

but probably even more surprising is that only vancouver hit a complete grand slam and got 2 future HOFers

btw if by some miracle we end up with the #1 pick and then trade it or pick someone besides Lafrenière that will 100% solidify without any question that the rangers hate the Q lol

Yea... no way they trade that pick - not even for 3 and 5. You take the easy consensus star forward and go from there.

... even if he is from the Q!

They actually got 3 because of the Isles being derps.

Well, it would depend. How high do you have Lafreniere compared to say a Byfield or Stützle? One of the three would be available at #3. Then at #5, Drysdale could be an option for defense. The Rangers would then still have another pick, likely in the early to mid-teens.

Lafrenierre is the type of player you regret for years not taking, he does it all.
