With Chara officially retired and it looking increasingly less likely that Joe Thornton extends his career, the last 1970s born players have left the league.

For reference, Dwayne Roloson was the last 1960s born player to retire, in 2012. So it took exactly another decade to go from the last 60s to the last 70s player, which is some nice symmetry.

The current oldest active player is Craig Anderson at 41, followed by Mark Giordano at 39.

Just speculating, but I think 80s will be wiped out sooner than 10 years from now. Presumably, the last player would have been born in 1989. Do you see anyone that is 33 right now that will still be active in the 2031-2032 season?

One of the more "right between the eyes" feeling of getting old was when I realized that, as I blew out my candles at 35, I would be considered "old" in the NHL, and I would not want to sign me based on age.

Yeah. scrolled through the list of players in that bracket. Honestly I am not sure if even 5 years from now any of them will be left, maybe Crosby. Majority of them you wouldn't think would play beyond 3-4 more seasons.
