Due to the difference in our PP I thought Gelly made, I wanted to find out what the statistical difference actually was. I looked at Gelly's game log and the box scores for each game he's played. (note that I did this manually, so there may be errors) I totaled the number of PP goals and attempts in each of these games. Here's the data:

10/24 Vancouver - 1/3
10/26 Boston - 4/7
10/29 Tampa Bay - 0/2
11/2 Philly - 0/5
11/3 Minnesota - 0/3
11/7 Philly - 0/3
11/8 Toronto - 1/3
11/10 Nashville - 1/4
11/12 NYR - 0/3
11/15 LA - 0/2
11/16 Pitt - 0/3
11/20 Anaheim - 2/4
11/21 LA - 0/2
11/23 San Jose - 1/1

That's a total of 10 for 45 on the PP. That's 22.22%.

Our season total is 14 for 75. That means we were 4 for 30 on the PP pre-Gelly - which is 13.33%.

Currently, 13.33% would be 26th in the league. 22.22% would be 7th in the league.

Now, I'm sure puck luck and bounces has something to do with the huge difference in our PP% pre- and post-Gelly.

However not only have our results improved dramatically under Gelly, we've also looked much better. We looked absolutely lost on the PP most of the time before Gelly was called up. Now, we actually look like a competent unit.

I really doubt the 22.22% under Gelly will keep up, but I just thought I'd make this thread to give props to Gelly, because Gelly is clearly having a significant impact on our PP.

It's not just Gelly - Jagr started off the season really slowly with no training camp, and we had a bunch of new forwards who needed time to gel. That said, I think Gelly is the biggest reason for the improvement in the PP.

Our PP is pretty damn poor. We struggle entering the zone which needs to improve dramatically.

The irony is that if Lou didn't **** up with Urbom, it would be him in the lineup right now and Gelinas would still be in Albany.

What a great player he is. I was never a big fan of Gelinas as a prospect but he's proven me wrong. And I couldn't be happier.

Considering the type of -EFENSE that Urbom provided in a PK situation for the Caps(I forget what game it was), I'm not really sweating his absence.

What this team needs isn't more defense.....It's offense.

Don't hold your breath as it's been an issue for years now.. I really like the Philly style of doing a drop pass to a guy with some speed.. Right now we either dump it deep and their D get the first shot at clearing, or we enter together and slowly, meaning their on us immediately and blocking our passing lanes

That's why I could give a kazoo about Urbom. If we didn't waive him it would probably be him in the lineup over Gelly. I always wanted Gelinas to be in over Urbom, because we needed offense from the blue line. So thanks Lou for waiving Urbom.

I'm not impressed with Gelinas offensively, personally. His point production likely won't stay this high and he was known for his point production.

What I'm impressed with is his defense. He has his flaws, but more or less I expected him to be routinely burned to the outside. He gets beat once in a while, but really he is incredibly sound defensively. And his hand-eye is off the charts. The amount of pucks he bats down is incredible.

The amazing part is he is supposed to be the "worst" out of him our big 4 of Larsson, Merrill, Severson, and Gelinas. If he turns out to be the worst of those 4, well we will be a dominant team for a long time.

Yes, I mentioned how bounces and puck luck surely have something to do with it.

But you can just see the visible improvement in the PP since Gelly came up.
while im glad he has found a spot on the team.....but that boston game has to affect those percentages
Even if you completely ignore the Boston game, we're 6/38 for 15.79%. So even without that outlier of a game it's better than before.

I guess you could say the PP finally started to..gel.

I'll show myself out.

 no come back!

Gelinas has been absolutely wonderful since he came back and our team has looked much better overall as well. What I'd like to see his some Larsson stats pre and post- Gelly. Wasn't it the first two games they played together they had ridiculous corsi numbers? I'm sure they haven't kept up that pace but the two together is a great pair moving forward for this team.
