Did he audition before Newstead was hired or after he was fired? Either way it was probably the right choice. Claypool has his own style and it wouldn't work well with Metallica. Love them both.

I think they all additioned around the same time. The story goes that Les auditioned with Metallica. Apparently he knew his stuff, but was not a fit otherwise. JH had nothing but good things to say about Les afterwards.

Makes sense. Trujillo was a better fit.
