Confirmed Signing with Link: [NJD] F Arseni Gritsyuk signs ELC with the Devils (1 year, $925k)

Him singing about the contract shows how invested and committed to the team he already is. Love it

Edit: Ah man, you should have left the title as sings.

Hehe, I'm an editor by profession, I always re-read what I write and correct possible errors. And I thought the thread was too official for such jokes.

Get ready for the introduction of teams getting mid-season loot boxes and needing a season pass subscription to qualify for the draft lottery.

Looking at my subscription bills to try to watch all of the different services splintering NHL content, I wonder when I start getting in game gold and useless cosmetic things too.

They’ve already animated the ads on the boards, I don’t see what’s keeping them from allowing you to buy skins for the players. Stützle in a banana suit? Wilson as the poop emoji? Maybe in-game gold for influencing calls can help make reffing biases more transparent and get fans even more involved with the product.

Can hardly contain my excitement for modernizing the NHL.

1) Does anyone know if the one year was the max he could sign? I thought it was 2 year max, but maybe that was if he played this year in the playoffs.

2) Is he an RFA after the deal expires?

He's an RFA and it was always a 1 year deal, if he'd played in the playoffs he would have needed another contract for the upcoming season.

1. ELC lengths are determined by age (as of September 15th of that calendar year).

18-21 years old: 3 years
22-23 years old: 2 years
24 years old: 1 year
25+ years old North American trained: no set limit
25-28 years old European trained: 1 year

Gritsyuk turned 24 a couple months ago so he could only sign for 1 year. The only question was whether he had enough leverage for the contract to be registered this year like Alexander Nikishin. But it probably didn't make as much sense to register this year since he'd be RFA this offseason with no arb/offer sheet rights.

Nikishin doesn't turn 24 until October, so he falls into the 22-23 year old bucket and that's why he got a 2 year ELC with Carolina.

2. He'll be RFA. I'd have to look up whether he'd have arbitration / offer sheet rights.

If he plays with Jack Hughes, and the latter is good for at least 60 games (still big if), then Gritsyuk can win the Calder. And people will start whining again about "that bad ancient Russian from the KHL, who beat good young kids".

He would need to light it up as a rookie and score more than 60 points. Im thinking his ceiling is around that point toal but, I would love to see him out do 60 points or more. Would be a straight up draft steal for the Devils.

He'd need to get on PP1.

You aren't winning the calder without PP1 time.
