Nice contract for an undrafted player. What was it about his game that scout's missed? Or was it simply a case of him growing or his tactical game greatly improving?
Interesting. The last time the Devils drafted a defenseman from the Q he was also from Drummondville (Xavier Bernard). But they did not sign him and he's been mostly in the ECHL.
They may be eyeing what they want in Utica going forward. And some guys are later bloomers. *shrug*

On the other hand, we had zero RHD signed next season for Utica. Probably room for both if Casey isn't trade bait.

Diotte was good enough at last year's Flames prospect camp to warrant an invite to their main pre-season camp, but was one of the first cuts from the main camp. He looked fairly pedestrian at the prospect camp from what I remember...a run of the mill, but big defensive dman with a little bit of puck moving ability (at the major junior level).
He probably doesn't pan out as anything better than a good AHL defender, but who knows.

Just following up because it seems he's played just seven games this season (two in the ECHL).
Assuming that is due to injury since Utica dressed just five defensemen the other night.
But haven't seen any news on him.

It's weird - the AHL shows him as having been sent down on their transactions page. And the ECHL shows him as having been sent to Adirondack on their transactions page. But Adirondack does not show him on their roster page. There was something about him being on the Adirondack IR so perhaps he's still dealing with an injury down there?
