Sad story:
deadline.com
Katt's probably best remembered as Clint, the agro a-hole who punches Adam Goldberg in Dazed in Confused, but he had a long character actor career. Katt was a real fixture in a lot of the 90s indie scene and so for a late Gen X'er such as myself his face and his personality (often type cast as an a-hole) was one I feel like I spent extensive time with.
Though the cause of death is fresh news as of today, I actually stumbled on the news of his death a few days ago. I've been on a major Steven Soderbergh kick and in the course of looking up something about The Limey where Katt has a funny and memorable role as a low-rent hitman (obnoxious and angry, of course), I saw the news that he'd died. I then saw him in a small role in Behind the Candelabra. He's the highlight of Full Frontal, which is a rare miss from Soderbergh, but in a cast that includes Julia Roberts, David Duchovny, Blair Underwood and David Hyde Pierce, it's Katt's overly committed actor (playing Hitler in a play) who steals the movie and is maybe the one reason worth checking it out.
It's a slightly weird experience to have spent some decent time with his work in the last week without knowing that he had just died.
RIP.
