McCormick is a better all around player than Tarnasky, so that should answer that one.
Scott is one of the best goons in the NHL. Tarnasky is decent, but not THAT good.
Honestly, if the Sabres have that many injuries that Tarnasky gets called, they're in a hole of epic proportions.

I agree McCormick is clearly better than Tarnasky for situations where you want a checking forward who can fight rather than the pure goon of John Scott. But with McCormick out I think Tarnasky would be the most logical guy to fill his role. Certainly slightly more offensive potential than John Scott, but still grittier than Ellis.

Right, but the whole reason we got Scott is to have that last line of defense when it comes to sticking up for our 'get under the skin' players like Foligno, Kaleta and Ott. And these first few games will be important in establishing that.
A few more games of punishing physical play and guys answering the bell/sticking up for eachother... then Scott can ride the bench until he's needed.

Not necessarily. He could be called up ahead of others if guys like Scott and McCormick are both out.

I agree.
The same as last year when Turnbull was called up to fill a need (Kaleta out). Tarnasky is on the PK. He is currently playing with Adam and Flynn on the "2nd line".
As of today, forward depth (for call-up) in Rochester as I see it:
1. Porter (center or wing)
2. Flynn (wing)
3. Adam (center or wing)
4. Tarnasky (to replace an injured Kaleta, McCormick or Scott)
5. Mancari (wing)
6. Varone (center)
7. Sundher (center or wing - not ready yet, but starting to heat up with increase opportunity with end of lockout)

Stop calling WGR everyday. You know the last thing I want? Vanek, Pommers, Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno, Stafford, Grigs, Kaleta, Ott and yes even Jochen Hecht to lose 1 second of ice time to a fourth line player. They come on the ice, they hit a guy, they go sit on the bench. It doesn't matter if Tarnasky is marginally better than any of our fourth liners, they are there to break heads and stay out of the way, not run a regular shift. He serves a purpose and has a use in Roc. On a related note they should probably promote Rocs puck freezer because it's a better stick handler then the Sabres fridge.

The 4th line for the Devils and Kings were an important part in their runs to the Stanley Cup Finals.
I think Ruff would love to be in the situation to be able to give more minutes to the forth line and have the top lines "lose" some seconds. Thats what he did after the empty net goal against Philly, put out the likes of Ellis and Scott. The top forwards are going to burn out quick playing a game every other night if the 4th line only plays 1-2 minutes a night.

If Buffalo makes a cup run that has fourth liners contributing it will be Kaleta/Hecht/Gerbe not Scott, McCormick or Tarnasky. After this season Tarnasky gets pushed further down the charts because Tropp comes back.

No. He hasn't. He played 2 full seasons, with the Lightning. And was -6 and -15 in those 2 years. If he was so effective with the Preds, you would think they would've played him more than 11 games. Career AHL'er folks, nothing more and maybe something less.

He's a career AHLer, but he definitely is a solid call up for 4th line duty. He's surprisingly fast and has a good shot. You can do a lot worse than Tarnasky on the 4th line.
That 2007-08 Tampa Bay team was terrible, most allowed goals in the league. You can't expect a fourth liner to come out a plus player on a team like that. I will say that 10 points is a lot more than John Scott will ever pick up in a season.

Yes, that's exactly why I don't expect John Scott to play every game, and I think Nick Tarnasky could fill McCormick's spot.

I'm not sure why people think I've been calling WGR? I'm from Rochester, so it's not even a clear channel here. And I never listen to any of that. I'm genuinely wondering why Tarnasky hasn't gotten a call. McCormick might be slightly more gifted offensively, but since when do we count on our 4th line to score goals?
